PAPER AND CARDBOARD RECYCLING (Home Collection and Recycling Depot):
Mix with “Containers” in home collection program. At local depot place “Containers” in separate bin.
Please recycle home collection or depot:
 Newspapers, inserts, flyers, catalogues,
magazines, telephone directories
 Household paper, paper gift wrap, paper
greeting cards, envelopes without padding
 Corrugated cardboard
 Boxboard boxes
 Moulded boxboard, e.g., paper egg
cartons, beverage carry-out trays
 Paper bags that have single and multiple
paper layers (e.g. pet food bags with no
shiny foil)
Do NOT include:

• Flatten large corrugated boxes and tie in
bundles no larger than 8” thick (20 cm) X
30” wide (78 cm) X 30” tall (78 cm); staples
and tape accepted; place beside
boxes/inside cart

No hardcover or paperback books
No non-paper gift wrap (e.g. foil, ribbons or
bows)
No musical greeting cards with batteries;
No padded envelopes (no bubble wrap)
No boxes with wax coatings (e.g. waxed
grocery shipping boxes for produce)
No foil lined paper bags (e.g. for some
cookies and some pet food)
No paper towel, napkins or tissues
No rubber bands
• Flatten boxes and place directly into the
collection container, not inside other
cardboard box
• Remove plastic wrap from cardboard flats
• Place shredded paper in a firmly-tied clear
plastic bag (don’t use opaque or black bags)
 Shredded paper (place in clear plastic bag)

Ensure all items clean and dry!
Do NOT include:
 Paper drink cups,
 Milk cartons,
 Tetra-paks, aseptic boxes and cartons, e.g.,
soups, sauces;
 Frozen dessert boxes, e.g. ice cream
 Microwavable bowls and cups
 Metal cans and lids
 Empty aerosol cans and caps
 Spiral wound paper cans and lids (juice
concentrate, Pringles)
 Aluminum foil wrap, aluminum take-out
and baking containers
 Plastic bottles, jugs and jars with caps and
lids placed
 Plastic clamshells for baked goods, fruit,
eggs;
 Trays and tops; tubs and lids
 Plastic cold drink cups and lids
 Plastic garden transfer pots and seedling
trays (clean, no ornamental pots)
 Plastic pails less than 25 L, e.g., for laundry
detergent, ice cream

No aerosol cans with any contents remaining
No other metal items: no coat hangers; no kitchen pots, pans
or baking trays; no metal or plastic toys; no appliances; no
scrap metal; no wiring, metal cords or extension cords
No other plastic items: no ornamental pots, no pool covers,
no tarps, no plastic furniture, no garden hoses, no rope
No chip or foil bags, no foil wrap with paper (e.g. butter,
cigarettes), no blister packs (e.g. plastic/foil protective
packaging for chewing gum and pills)
No kitchen plastic wrap (cling wrap) including wrap for meat,
poultry, fish or cheese;
No packaging labelled as biodegradable or compostable;
No pails larger than 25L
Plastic Containers:
Bottles, trays, tubs, food
container. Caps OK.
No Styrofoam or bags

Aluminum Containers:
Pie plates, foil wrap,
empty aerosol cans
• Empty and rinse
containers
• To avoid cutting people,
clean cans then put metal
lids inside cans and
squeeze slightly
• Take off all caps and lids
(e.g. for beverage bottles,
jars, tubs and aerosol
cans) and place them
loose in your recycling
bag/container
• Take all deposit beverage
containers to Return-It

Bring Plastic Bags and Overwrap to depot only:
All items clean and dry.
 Plastic bags and overwrap, e.g., clear or
opaque plastic bags for groceries, dry
cleaning, bread, newspapers and flyers
 Clear bags for produce and dry bulk foods
 Frozen vegetable bags and pre-washed
salad bags
 Outer bags and wrap for diaper and
feminine hygiene products, paper towels,
tissues and other bulk paper products and
soft drink can flats
 Water softener, salt, wood pellet and
garden product bags
 Overwrap on mattresses, furniture and
electronic equipment
Bring Polystyrene Packaging to depot only:
All items clean and dry.
 Styrofoam cups, trays for food and
molded polystyrene
packaging used to
protect electronics,
small appliances,
etc.
Bring Glass Containers to depot only:
All items clean and dry.

• Cut off or remove metal grommets, rope
drawstrings and non-plastics items from
plastic bags
• Stuff all plastic bags into one bag and tie
handles firmly
• Remove labels, tape, paper and cardboard
