Alamance T oday March 2017 From the Board I hope everyone enjoyed some of the beautiful weather we had in late February. Let’s hope that March brings good weather as well. The construction is moving into full swing, and the walls, ceilings and floors are being stripped and prepped for new colors and treatments. Ths Clubhouse is now a ‘Hard Hat Area”, and we ask that you do not go into the construction areas. We will have fabric samples, colors, and story-boards for viewing Ray Womack soon. Club President Thanks to everyone for their support of our Club. Be sure to check out the new dinner specials and theme nights this monthy in the Ross Grill. These are exciting times for Alamance Country Club! Club President Ray Womack, From the General Manager Greetings Alamance Country Club! So far 2017 is moving along at a rapid pace. I am happy to report that we remain on schedule to complete our clubhouse renovations by October 1st. The upstairs kitchen demolition is completed, we have temporarily moved the administration offices to the pool pavilion and wall prep is currently underway in the Saddle Club Lounge and Magnolia Room. I think most members will be pleased that the old grass cloth wall paper in those rooms has finally been removed! We greatly appreciate your patience during the renovation transition period for the next seven months, and we have been very pleased with the dining traffic in the Donald Ross Grill. Jonathan Spence Over the next several weeks the warmer weather ushers in greener fairways and the sounds of racquets volleying balls over the nets. Without question, the end of our winter season is a fantastic time to take advantage of Scott and Adam’s lessons and clinics to get you ready for the tournament season. Donald Ross Grill Update Even though the club has limited kitchen production abilities in the Donald Ross Grill, we are excited to announce that we can provide banquet options for small private events (birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, business meetings, etc.) for 30 guests and under. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide buffet options until we move back upstairs. Fortunately, there are a few limited options that we can offer until we move our banquet operations upstairs in the fall. Listed below is a summary of our Donald Ross Grill private event guidelines: Donald Ross Grill Private Party Guidelines • Club Members may reserve the Men’s Grill or Tarleton Room at no room charge. • The Donald Ross Grill dining area will not be available for private events • Groups of 15 guests and below may order from the Donald Ross Grill a la carte menu. • For private groups of 16-30 guests, the Club offers chef’s choice menu selecctions that may include a limited 3-course menu of your choice of one soup or one salad, one entrée and one dessert. All custom menus for private events must be approved by the Executive Chef. • All private groups must be charged to one member account. • Card Groups, Luncheon Clubs, Book Clubs, Garden Clubs and Dance Clubs that have booked events at the club in the past may book the Tarleton Room and Men’s Grill upon availability. • In order to properly staff for events, the club requests that all private parties be scheduled at least 14 days prior the desired event date. • For all questions regarding event bookings in the Tarleton Room or Men’s Grill please call the Club’s Administrative Office at 336.584.0345. Lastly, I want to congratulate our Director of Golf, Adam McLaughlin on his recent hole in one, in Tampa, Florida on hole # 11 at the Old Memorial Club on January 24th. Congratulations Adam! Maybe you can help me get a hole in one sometime! I look forward to seeing you around the club and as always, should you need anything, I am at your service! Pre-Juniors (ages 4-6) 3:30pm - 4:15pm Juniors (ages 7 and up) 4:30pm - 5:30pm From Tee to Green Peter Horn, CGCS Course Superintendent 6 This has certainly been a different winter than most. I haven’t seen this many 70 degree during the last weeks in February as we have had. The sun-facing slopes of the golf course are showing a lot of new green color, and the Bermuda grass is also greening up, but won’t show any signs of growth until late March and early April. As long as we don’t have temperatures in the teens and low 20’s the rest of the winter, I believe we will be ok and not experience any winter kill. So far, the greens are doing well, and we are on schedule to aerify them the second week of April. Our winter job of painting golf course accessories should be done by early March. We started trimming crepe myrtles around the course and will be removing some dead trees and limbing up some tress over the next month. This warm weather has prompted us to put out our premerg chemicals for late spring and early summer weeds, and we should be completed with this process by early March. www.alamancecountryclub.com Tennis Scott Schofer Director of Tennis Tennis Pro Shop 336.584.4115 Hours Tuesday through Saturday 9:00am 6:00pm Sunday Monday 12:00pm 6:00pm Spring is just around the corner, and that means it’s tennis season once again! As a reminder, our Quick Start clinics are structured for kids to learn, rally and play in a way that is both enjoyable and rewarding. We also have customized equipment and courts, so they are sized appropriately for kids and make the game more fun. The shorter and narrower courts give kids the confidence and ability to cover the entire court. Racquets are smaller and lighter. Kids have trouble controlling full-sized racquets because they are too long, too heavy, and the grips are too large. • Quick Start racquets are proportionate in length and weight, and have the grips that fit smaller hands allowing for more control (21”, 23”. 25”). • Balls bounce at a height equal to kids’ playing abilities which provides for better and longer rallies and allows kids to build all-court games (Red, Orange, Green). ACC Tennis offers three Quick Start programs suited to fit the age and skill of your child. Please contact Stefan to register and for an age/skill assessment. This certification allows him to perform a physical TPI Assessment in the Fitness Center that screens for biomechanical inefficiencies and dysfunctions in golfers of all ages and ability levels. The TPI philopsophy believes golfers will benefit the most from a healthy and efficient body. Matt Som m er There is an infinite number of swingstyles but, there is one efficient way for each person to swing MS, CSCS, CES and it is based on what the player can physically do. Once the TPI Director of Fitness Assessment is finished, the results are used to create a plan unique for that golfer. The plan may include strength training, mobility exercises, stretching exercises, and balance work. Golfers will see the most improvement when they consistenly follow this plan with the help of a trainer. The TPI session will take about 45 minutes. During this session Ben will perform different screens to find in efficient biomechanics. Once the weaknesses are determined, you can choose to come back for one 60-minute session to learn new exercises to help you, or you can choose to come back for six 30-minute sessions to be guided theough the workout each time. The price includes a second TPI assessment to see how and where you have improved. You can learn more about TPI at www.MyTPI.com.
