THE GAME There are 5 to 9 players on a team. An official game is 2 twenty
minute halves with a 5-10 minute rest between halves.
THE KICKOFF The ball is put into play at the beginning of each half and after
each goal, from the center circle, by a place kick. All members of the kicking team
must remain in their half of the playing field. The opposing team remains in their
half of the field 10 yards from the ball until it is kicked. When initial contact is
made with the ball, all players may cross the center line and play anywhere on the
field. The ball must go one rotation and must be touched by another player.
SCORING The ball can be thrown or kicked into the goal. A score cannot be made
from inside the penalty circle (goal box). One point is awarded if the ball is thrown
across the goal line and two points it is kicked.
BALL CONTROL
FLY BALL- All fly balls must be played with the hands. If no more than 2
steps are taken with the ball, the rules of basketball are in effect and an
opponent may not tag, push or hold the player. You can try to gain possession
or tie up the ball. The player in possession of the ball may pass the ball or
pivot. If the player chooses to run with the ball, then the rules of touch
football are in effect (two hand touch). If the player is tagged while running
with the ball, a free kick is awarded to the opposing team at the spot where the
tag was made. To avoid being tagged, the player may drop the ball to the
ground and play the ball with the feet.
GROUND BALL- Any ball, other than a fly ball, must be played with the feet
as in soccer. Players are not allowed to kick the ball up to themselves but can
kick it up to a teammate.
GOALIE The goalie is allowed to pick the ball up anywhere inside the Penalty
Circle.
FOULS If a foul occurs on the field of play, the opposite team is awarded a free
kick on the spot. It is a foul to hold, push, kick, hack, strike or charge an opponent.
It is a foul to touch the ball with your hands once it bounces. You cannot kick a fly
ball or play a ball again on a kick-off, throw-in or free kick before it has been
touched by another player. Dangerous kicks are illegal.
FREE KICK A free kick is awarded a team when one of its players tags an
opponent who has taken more than 2 steps with the ball, or when a foul occurs.
PENALTY KICK A penalty is taken from two yards in front of the restraining
circle and is awarded for any unnecessary roughness or unsportsmanlike conduct.
OUT OF BOUNDS When the ball goes out of bounds, it is put back into play by a
throw-in. This must be a two hand overhead throw and both feet must be on the
ground.
TIE BALL When two opposing players gain possession of the ball at the same
time or if two players simultaneously hit the ball out of bounds. A jump ball is taken
at the spot nearest to where this occurs.
