Create an environment where your audience can connect, be engaged and be active
around your issues.
Align filtered dynamic content — news, analysis and data, with your message.
Present engagement opportunities that allow your audience to share their story and share
information.
Measure and report activities.
Micro-target your supporters through a powerful user database and connect and
communicate more effectively.
Engage will allow AIDS United and our members to involve our constituents more directly in our most
important legislative issues at both the state and federal level. With Engage, we can promote
positions on issues and specific legislation while integrating opportunities to take action (share stories,
call, write or tweet) that directly reaches our constituents’ elected officials. The emphasis of Engage is
not on content, but on action. Content on the site is meant to support the action alerts, or
“engagements.”

Engagement Parameters
Process
 To include an engagement for your state or suggest a federally focused engagement,
contact Joe Drungil at [email protected]

With your request, please include the following information to publish your Engagement:
o Engagement type – Share your story, Letter, Tweet, Phone call
o Engagement title – Call to action
o Engagement description – This will appear on the Engage site as a description for those
taking action
o Engagement content – Send the text of your Engagement – this may be a phone script,
letter, or Tweet.
o Targets – Which elected officials will receive the Engagement? (i.e. Federal, State,
committee, chamber, party, etc.)
o Specific feedback – Is there feedback you want from the Engagement? For example,
for a phone call asking to support a bill, you may want to know if the office committed
to support the bill.

After submitting your Engagement request, the AIDS United team will review and edit the text
and enter into the Engage site. Once the Engagement is ready to be made live, you will
receive a test link for final approval.
Timeline
 Consider the timing of your other planned communications. The timing of the Engagement will
also have to coordinate with any other Engagements being sent out to prevent overloading
our advocate base with requests. We want to keep our supporters engaged, but we don’t
want them to be overwhelmed by repetitive or overlapping actions.

Ideally, send your Engagement request one week in advance of the desired send date to
allow for content editing and email scheduling. Although some Engagements may be more
last minute due to unexpected changes in issues or legislation, a minimum window of 48 hours
is required. However, such a short turnaround cannot be guaranteed and will be considered
only in special circumstances.
Content
 Content may be edited by AIDS United to maintain consistency in language and format of
Engagements. Organizations creating an Engagement will have final approval of edits and
other changes.

Engagements should not conflict with AIDS United policy priorities.

When sending your Engagement request, include an image file of your organization’s logo, if
applicable.

Include an image - 612 pixels (width) x 300 pixels (height) – with your request. This image will
appear with the Engagement headline on the web site. You should have permission to use the
image and it should relate to the Engagement topic. AIDS United staff may assist with image
selection if necessary.
