WHAT’S UP @ DEREE
Volume 2, Issue 18—February 18, 2013
ATHLETICS
Intercollegiate Athletics: Every year we welcome the Higher Hotel Institute of Cyprus for friendly games with our Intercollegiate teams. This year was no exception when, on February 6th, their soccer team challenged ours to a friendly 5X5
Indoor Soccer game. Our team won the game 16-11.
Intercollegiate Teams: Last week was a difficult one for our intercollegiate teams. Our Men’s Soccer team lost 1-3 to
Motor Oil, our Men’s Basketball team lost 55-65 to Petrogaz, our Women’s Basketball team lost 21-55 to G.A.S. Kalivion
and our Women’s Volleyball team lost 1-3 to G.A.S. Cholargou. Well, teams… in the words of American writer Richard
Bach: That’s what learning is after all; not whether we lose the game but how we lose and how we changed because of it,
and what we take away from it that we never had before, to apply to other games. Losing, in a curious way, is winning.
Intramurals: While the 5x5 Basketball tournament is at full swing with four games a week, all the individual competitions
are up and running. There still is time to participate in the open ones, such as: Timed Climbing, Super Fit, Darts,
Battleship at the Pool, and Play Station Soccer. Get more information from [email protected]
Relay Marathon: Start getting in shape as the annual Relay Marathon is coming up on April 10th! This year it’s going to be
easier as 10 runners on each team will have to do only 10 laps each (40 klms / team). Start getting those teams together!
And don’t forget – in our Intramurals program the emphasis is on participation and the joy that comes from involvement
in a sport. We welcome all beginners regardless of fitness level.
Outdoor Recreation: Hiking Trip to Lake Tsivlou – Saturday, February 23rd. The deadline to sign up is Tuesday, February
19th. Seats are going fast. Don’t miss it.
