A is for the area of Death Valley
which is 5,270 square miles.
B is for the beaches along the
Southern coast region that are covered
with sand.
C is for the Cascade Range in
Northern California which extends
into the states of Oregon and
Washington.
D is for Death Valley, one of
the driest and hottest places in the
United States, and the lowest point in
the Western Hemisphere.
E is for the exhausted
animals running in the desert because
of the heat.
F is for the farming that is
very prominent in California’s Central
Valley.
G is for the Gambels quail
that lives in the desert.
H is for California’s two natural
harbors located at San
Francisco bay and San Diego Bay.
I is for irrigation. Irrigation
is the use of the canals, ditches, or
pipes to carry water to dry places such
as the desert.
J is for the Joshua tree that
grows in the desert region.
K is for Mount
Kilimanjaro which is a
mountain in Africa that is 19,340 feet
tall.
L is for the largest national
park in the United States outside of
Alaska, Death Valley.
M is for Mount Whitney.
Mount Whitney is the highest point in
the 48 connected states in California.
N is for the natural regions of
California: coastal, central valley,
desert, and mountain.
O is for the Ocean forming
steep cliffs along California’s
Northern coast.
P is for the prickly pear
cactus in the desert region.
Q is for the quiet regions
surrounding the desert.
R is for the Ribbon Falls
which is North America’s highest
waterfall which drops 1,612 feet.
S is for the Sierra Nevada
which is California’s deepest natural
lake hitting 1,600 feet deep in Lake
Tahoe.
T is for tributaries.
Tributaries are a number of smaller
rivers joined together. The San
Joaquin and Sacramento rivers flow
into a tributary.
U is for the unusual Yucca
plant that lives in the desert region. It
is a very spiky plant.
V is for the deep valleys
between the tall peaks of the Sierra
Nevada.
W is for the water sources that
flow through the central region.
X is for the X-treme heat in
the desert!
Y is for Yosemite Valley.
Yosemite Valley is part of Yosemite
National Park in the mountain region.
Z is for the ZZZ’s that desert
animals get throughout the day to
avoid the heat.
