MIRANDA’S CANINE
CASTING CALL
The Deputy Lord Mayor of Oxford picks the pooches
Halfway through day four of The BT Red Nose Challenge: Miranda’s Mad March, and Miranda Hart
and the Deputy Lord Mayor of Oxford have been met with over 200 dogs in various shapes and sizes,
all competing for a place in Miranda’s special dog show. The challenge is sponsored by BT, a long
term supporter of Comic Relief, who is making today Chat for Change Day*; when they will
generously be donating 1p from every call made from a BT home phone line or BT business line – all
to raise money in support of Miranda’s challenge.
The Deputy Lord Mayor was in charge of selecting the participants whilst Miranda got to know her
fellow competitors ahead of the very special show from 3.30pm, at Oxford’s Kassam Stadium – and
before the finale is broadcast live on The One Show tonight.
On seeing her competitors for the ‘Dog with the waggiest tail’ category, and being met by one very
special ‘dog’, Miranda said:
“These dogs are all very energetic! Not quite as energetic as the girl who has turned up in a doggie
onesie though… Only Comic Relief.”
Starting in Newcastle on Monday 11th March, Miranda tried – but sadly failed – to set a new
Guinness World Records title and wax 16 armpits in under three minutes live on The One Show.
After spending the day in Manchester on Tuesday, and dancing to ‘(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life’
live on The One Show, Miranda was in Birmingham yesterday (Wednesday) where she performed
the Spice Girls classic ‘Spice Up Your Life’ with her very own girl band ‘Onesie Direction’. Today sees
the star in Oxford (Thursday) before heading to London tomorrow, on Red Nose Day itself (Friday
15th March), when she hopes to have raised heaps of cash. She has no idea what her remaining
challenge will be until Chris Evans reveals it live tomorrow morning on his BBC Radio 2 Breakfast
Show.

You can also find out how she’s getting on tonight on The One Show on BBC One at 7pm.
Proving her Hart’s in the right place, Miranda is raising cash for Red Nose Day that could help
vaccinate children against deadly diseases that kill millions in Africa every single year. She’s also
raising money to help people living unimaginably tough lives across the UK. Just £5 could pay for a
vaccine to help protect a child in Uganda against diseases like tetanus and hepatitis B or provide a
hot meal for a young person living on the streets in the UK.
BT is today also giving £200,000 to support Miranda as part of the £500,000 it has committed to
raise in support of The BT Red Nose Challenges – a duo of celebrity challenges sponsored by BT for
Red Nose Day 2013.
-Ends*BT will donate 1p for every phone call made by a BT residential and business calls and lines customer from a BT
residential or business landline between 00.01 and 24.00 on the 14/03/13.

NOTES TO EDITORS:
Comic Relief and Red Nose Day
Red Nose Day 2013 is heading your way on Friday 15th March when the great British public will once
again be asked to Do Something Funny for Money.
Raising cash this Red Nose Day can help to change lives forever. That’s because Comic Relief spends
the money raised to help change the lives of poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged people across the
UK and Africa.
Comic Relief was launched on Christmas Day in 1985, live on BBC One. At that time, a devastating
famine was crippling Ethiopia and something had to be done. That something was Comic Relief. The
idea was simple – Comic Relief would make the public laugh while they raised money to help people
in desperate need. Before too long, Red Nose Day was created and the first ever event in 1988
raised a staggering £15m.
This year, 2013, marks the 25th anniversary of Red Nose Day which has raised over £600m and
helped to change lives both in the UK and Africa.
