Is your computer
protected?
November 3, 2010
With the recent outbreak of computer viruses, it is
especially important to make sure your antivirus
software is up to date and the latest Microsoft
Windows patches have been installed on your
computer.
Most malicious software (malware) is installed on a
machine without the user realizing it. For example,
malware can be installed simply by opening an email,
visiting a legitimate website or even closing or
cancelling a pop-up window. These are ways malicious
software can circumvent your antivirus program.
Symptoms
If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms,
your computer might be infected.

Your computer is running slowly

Your computer is locking up or not responding

Your computer restarts on its own

Applications aren’t working properly

Never click anything inside a pop-up window.
Instead, use the keyboard combination ALT and
F4. Holding ALT and pressing F4 will close the
window that is on top (which should be the
malicious pop-up).
