to fish, make sure to buy a license before you
come up at sporting goods stores like Big 5 or
Sport Chalet.

A Scout is Courteous
A scout is 12 things according to the Scout Law. One
easy one to remember is “a scout is courteous.”
What exactly does courteous mean? It means “having or
showing good manners; polite”. That’s not too hard. Just
remember to say “please” and “thank you.” You already
know those ones!
But there are a few more things to do that are courteous.
How about ‘excuse me” when you bump into someone
or when you burp? Do you remember to hold the door
open for people? Do you keep your voice quiet when
your indoors or make sure you’re on your best behavior
when you’re out among adults? Those might be a little
more difficult but they are important parts of being
courteous.
And another big one to remember, when your Akela is
talking you make sure you’re quiet and paying attention.
We scouts are courteous!
Scout Dues are Due
Just a reminder that annual dues are before the June
Pack Meeting. For only $120 per scout, each family
gets a whole year of learning, growing, practicing,
leading and fun. That’s less than a day at Disneyland
with lunch and parking! Please make sure your checks
out to B.S.A. and bring to the June Pack Meeting.
Also, make sure to add for Boy’s Life magazine for an
additional $12 if your son wants some extra reading
material.
What could be more courteous than paying on time
without being bugged by anyone?
Nathaniel’s Mother’s Day Fashion Show
Nathaniel lived “courteous” with this Mother’s Day eventand will share his story here:
This year I was asked to be an escort for the “Mother’s Day Ms. Pacifica Fashion Show” where
I routinely volunteer my time on monthly basics. I helped to escort the elderly women down the
runway toward the judge, where they were judged on their smiles, waves and personalities. It
was a lot of fun to be part of all and I was happy to help out.
Thank you for reading. See ya!
Did you or your den do something really interesting? Please submit your story and pictures to your den
leader and you could star in your own story!
Honoring the Fallen
Every Memorial Day weekend, scouts from all
over Los Angeles gather to honor the fallen at the
Los Angeles National Cemetery in Westwood. As
a group, we are given hundreds of flags and asked
to purposely, diligently and respectfully plant one
by each grave marker. The boys then salute and
say a small prayer for the fallen serviceman or
woman.
After a few hours of this work, the cemetery is
amazing to look at, with rows and rows of flags
honoring those who gave the ulitmate sacrifice for
our nation.
This also is an excellent opportunity to teach the
boys about service to the community, service to
the nation and sacrifice in the service of others. While it is a serious event, the boys feel like
they are part of something bigger than themselves and are thrilled to do this work every year.
Get Ready for the Next Step!
Be sure to pick up your boy’s new hat and scarf at the scout store before our June meeting.
That meeting will be held outdoors on the De la Salle field, so bring a chair or blanket as well.
