We are well into our first term, and progress report
cards will go home November 25!
A huge thank you to the volunteers who gave their
time to come and read during reading week to our
class.
English
Concepts we will continue to
work on…* writing in sentence form, using
correct capitalization and punctuation using
descriptive language in all writing * attempting to
spell independently
using knowledge of sounds, ‘chunks’ word families,
personal dictionaries and the Word Wall
New concepts we will be developing…
*demonstrating the understanding of a story by
identifying the main elements and by accurately
retelling
the important events *writing stories that include a
simple problem and solution Home Reading - your
child
should be reading for 15 minutes
Math
We will continue to develop our knowledge of
Numbers to 100…
*counting forward and backward from 0-100 by 2s,
5s, and 10s starting with multiples of 2, 5,
and 10 respectively explaining how we know if a
number is even or odd
*representing and describing numbers to 100
*comparing and ordering numbers to 100
*estimating
*thinking of as many ways as possible to represent a
given number
Science
*Describes the properties of magnets and
understands how they are used
*Identifies uses of magnets in the environment
*Predicts whether or not an object will be attracted
by a magnet
*Designs and builds a device that uses magnets
Social Studies Concepts we will continue to work
on…
*mapping skills
* introducing some of Canada’s dynamic
communities; a prairie community, an Inuit
community and an Acadian community
*discussing our responsibilities as citizens of
Canada.
Spanish
Continuing to increase vocabulary (verbs included)
through stories and songs.
Continuing to learn strategies to better
comprehend texts and oral instructions
Continue to work on listening, identifying and
producing basic Spanish sounds
Practice writing a simple written text on a familiar
topic
