HENLEY ROYAL REGATTA

LEANDER CLUBHOUSE AND MARQUEE
MEMBERS’ DINING OPTIONS AT REGATTA
I have pleasure in enclosing your Members’ personal metal badge and two
complimentary guest badges for each Member for use during Regatta 2017,
the total value of the badge pack being £180. Members are now invited to
make meal reservations at the Club using the Members’ booking form enclosed.
Please read the pack notes carefully before you book and particularly note:
l
Reservations are taken in writing on a first come, first served, basis.
l
Members’ parties may include private guests up to the limits stated.
l
Members wishing to bring business guests are welcome to do so at
15% discounted corporate rates. Corporate entertaining on the
back of the Members’ rates is strictly forbidden.
There are two bookable private luncheon options for Members during Regatta:
THE CLUBHOUSE DINING ROOM
This is widely regarded as the premier luncheon venue at Regatta. It offers a multi-choice à la
carte menu for small groups in an impeccable environment. Places are limited and this year
we have imposed a ceiling on the number of places any one Member may book to allow more
Members to take advantage of this unique atmosphere.
THE MEMBERS’ MARQUEE
The Marquee has its own distinctive al fresco atmosphere. It offers a limited choice, three-course
luncheon, and you should be able to complete your meal within our target of 90 minutes,
to allow minimum interruption to your enjoyment of the racing. Afternoon teas are also very
popular. Members wanting a secure base for the day can book a Table for the Day in the
Marquee which is an increasingly popular choice.
In addition there are non-bookable dining options in the Clubhouse and Riverview Bars. You will
have to take pot-luck on finding a table in the Clubhouse Bar so early arrival is recommended.
The bar provides substantial bar snacks such as our popular lobster salad, or you can purchase
similar food at the Riverview Bar and enjoy the river front atmosphere.
THE REGATTA ROOM
Members will recognise that, for reasons of space, we cannot retain our discreet Members-only
Drawing Room during the Regatta period. We are, however, keen to provide a Members-only
area in the evenings, and the Regatta Room will be reserved for this purpose after 6.30pm.
Bookings must be made for Members’ groups, at no additional charge, by emailing
[email protected], and drinks can then be purchased over the Bar in the usual way.
THE RIVERVIEW BAR & THE NEW “HUNGRY HIPPO”
Members will be pleased to know that we are reconfiguring the lay out of the Marquee to
give more space this year for the Riverview Bar and to accommodate the new ‘Hungry Hippo’
offer, which will be available every evening from 6pm. Full details are set out at the end of this
booklet.

CLUBHOUSE
Luncheons, afternoon teas and dinners can be
reserved by applying on the booking form enclosed
with the pack. Members’ options are as follows:
CLUBHOUSE LUNCHEON
The Clubhouse Dining Room is arguably the most prestigious luncheon venue
at Regatta, providing an à la carte luncheon of the highest quality for Members
and their private guests. The air conditioning allows Members to dine in
comfort and the jackets-on rule is strictly enforced at all meals.
Members may book up to eight luncheon places in the Dining Room during
Regatta week. You may dine at your discretion from noon with last orders
taken at 1.30pm. The four-course luncheon is for those Members whose
timetable allows them to miss the last races of the morning schedule and the
first few races of the afternoon, and you should allow two hours for this
relaxed luncheon service.
We then ask that you vacate the Dining Room by 3.30pm so that the tables
can be laid for afternoon tea.
Places do fill very quickly so prompt booking is essential. Once the Dining
Room is full we will automatically move your booking to the Marquee unless
you instruct us not to.
CLUBHOUSE
CLUBHOUSE AFTERNOON TEA
A quintessentially English afternoon tea is served at your table from 4pm.
You are asked to be clear by 6pm to allow us to re-set for dinners. Members
may book up to eight places per day. It may be possible to accommodate
larger parties at non-peak times by prior agreement.
CLUBHOUSE DINNER
For those wishing to finish the day on a quiet note or just avoid the traffic
home, dinner is served in the Club Dining Room with orders being taken
between 7.30pm and 8.30pm Wednesday to Saturday. Groups of up to
eight may be booked per table. Larger bookings can be accommodated
under separate arrangements in other parts of the Clubhouse.
MEMBERS’ REUNIONS/GATHERINGS
Regatta is a popular time for reunions and gatherings and Member enquiries
are most welcome for larger private dining or drinks receptions in the
Balcony, Eton Room or Marquee.
THE REGATTA ROOM
Menus and prices are on the website. Please contact the office staff for
assistance. The Regatta Room is reserved for Members use only after 6.30pm
each night and may be booked for specific Member gatherings without a room
charge up to 8.30pm. Please contact [email protected] in the first instance.
MEMBERS’ BAR MENU
The Clubhouse bar offers a quieter and more relaxed environment than the
Riverview bar.
Coffee is available from 8am and the bar runs from 10am until 11pm
(9pm Sunday).
Quality bar meals including the popular lobster salad are available at
lunchtime but places cannot be booked. We ask that Members vacate the
Regatta Room once they have taken lunch so that others may sit and eat.

MARQUEE LUNCHEONS AND AFTERNOON TEAS
The Marquee is arranged in tables of eighth to ten. It is suggested that, where
possible, Members and their private guests group together to make up tables and
take luncheon together. Luncheon is organised as a single sitting and service is from
noon with last orders taken at 1.30pm. With the exception of Members on Table for
the Day you are asked to vacate by 2.45pm to allow for tea service to be set.
There is a limited selection menu to facilitate speed of service. Members wishing
to watch the full programme of racing can usually dine in around 90 minutes.
On occasions the race programme and weather conspire together to make this
more challenging but staff will always do their best. Please let them know at the
beginning of the meal if you are pressed for time.
You may book luncheons and afternoon teas separately, or book a
single table for the day. In any case you are restricted to one table of ten per
day for luncheon and afternoon tea. Some larger parties may be accommodated by
separate arrangement outside peak days.
Members wishing to invite business guests are invited to contact
[email protected] where a 15% reduction on published corporate
rates is available. Members may not conduct overt business entertaining at
Members’ rates. The Marquee, with its al fresco style, has a great atmosphere and,
as it is not air-conditioned, Members may remove their jackets at the table.
Jackets must however be replaced on leaving the Marquee.
TABLE FOR THE DAY
Members who wish to book a party of eight to ten for the day are encouraged to
take a Table for the Day. This gives members a firm base from which to entertain.
The price includes complimentary coffee on arrival, luncheon and afternoon tea.
Table drinks service can be placed on a day account payment basis. By preordering your food and wines on arrival you are assured of the promptest service
during the busy lunch period.
Members are restricted to one table of up to ten each day.
MARQUEE THREE-COURSE LUNCHEON
The limited choice menu consists of a cold starter, hot choice main course or
lobster salad, dessert and coffee. A vegetarian option is also available and other
dietary requirements can be accommodated if we are informed, ideally at the
time of booking. Members are encouraged to pre-order their lunchtime wines at the
Marquee earlier in the morning.

GENERAL INFORMATION
BADGES
Each Member will find enclosed a badge pack with their personal Members’ metal badge and two complimentary
guest badges for each day of the Regatta. The total value of the badge pack is £180. FOR EVERY LUNCHEON OR
AFTERNOON TEA YOU BOOK YOU WILL BE SENT ADDITIONAL COMPLIMENTARY BADGES (OVER AND
ABOVE THE PACK) TO MAKE UP YOUR PARTY SIZE. To assist security Members and guests are required to ensure
their badges are worn at all times and are clearly visible. No admission to the grounds will be permitted without an
appropriate badge. MEMBERS ARE REMINDED THAT THEY ARE ENTIRELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR GUESTS
AT ALL TIMES. BADGES ARE STRICTLY NOT FOR RESALE BUT ADDITIONAL BADGES (FOR THOSE NOT
DINING) MAY BE PURCHASED FOR £12 EACH AT THE BADGE TENT. (£6 ON THE DOOR AFTER 6 PM).
OVERSEAS MEMBERS
Overseas Members will not be sent a badge pack. If they wish to attend Regatta they should notify the Club membership@
leander.co.uk and upon payment of the full subscription they may book meals and collect their badge packs from the Club
Badge Tent on arrival.
LEANDER DRESS CODE
Members are asked to remind their guests that the dress code for Regatta is very traditional. Within the clubhouse and
grounds gentlemen are required to wear lounge suit, jacket or blazer and flannels with a tie or cravat. Only in the most
extreme temperatures would an announcement be made relaxing the jacket rule in non-air conditioned areas. In such
circumstances ties must remain fastened and sleeves unrolled. An exception applies in the Marquee where Members
may remove their jackets when at table.
In the air-conditioned Club Dining Room members should remain in their jackets at all times.
Ladies are required to wear dresses or skirts. Dress length should be ‘around the knee’. Please note that ladies wearing
short or very revealing dresses will be declined entry. Entry will also be declined for ladies in shorts, divided skirts,
culottes and trousers. Hats are optional but encouraged. These dress codes apply to everyone and no exceptions are made.
STEWARDS’ ENCLOSURE DRESS CODE
A similar rule applies to Stewards’ Enclosure but the dress must COVER the knee. There are no exceptions made to this rule.
MOBILE COMMUNICATION DEVICES
The golden rule with electronic communication devices is that you should not use them in such a way as to impair the
enjoyment of others. They should be switched to silent and, if it is necessary to hold a conversation, it should be conducted
quietly in a discreet place. It is unacceptable to make calls at the dining table. The Stewards’ Enclosure has stricter controls
on the use of mobile telephones.
CAR PARKING
The Club’s normal parking is not available to members during Regatta week (Monday to Sunday). A special roped-off
area by the pond in Wargrave Meadows is set aside for members of Leander Club wishing to picnic and places
need to be reserved. This facility is available at cost to Members and their guests. Conventional parking is also
available on a pay-on-the day basis.
WHEELCHAIR ACCESS
Wheelchair access is available to all areas of the Club with the exception of the Eton Room and the raised Riverside
Terrace and bar where regrettably this is impractical.
CHILDREN
Babies and young children may not be brought into the grounds or Clubhouse. Children around the age of ten are
welcome provided they do not upset members and guests.
DOGS
Dogs may not be brought into the Clubhouse or grounds at any time.
PINK HIPPO SHOP
During Regatta an extended Club shop is situated by the main entrance to the Clubhouse. Opening hours are from 10 am to
7 pm and until 8 pm on the Friday and Saturday. The continuing success of the shop provides a very healthy contribution to
the rowing programme.
For further information please telephone the office during normal office hours 01491 575782 or email
[email protected] Leander Club, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, RG9 2LP.
