INGLEFIELD HOUSE
Weekly Bulletin
GIRLS 7-11
Michaelmas Term
Week 10
25th November 2016
A note from the Head of Inglefield House...
What a week of contrasts! A deluge at the beginning of the week and glorious sun at the end. I truly had to shrug off any Scrooge tendencies this week; on
the way back from Tintern with Year 5, I was serenaded with every musical item from the approaching Christingle service, complete with descants! They
sounded lovely even on a rattling bus on a winding road. The Christmas tree will be going up in school next week. Please do encourage your children
to enter the bauble decorating competition; we loved The Grange’s decorating idea so much that we too have adopted it, so thanks to them for another
opportunity to raise money for charity.
An information letter from our exchange school in Lyon accompanies this letter. This scheme has run successfully for three years at Inglefield House and
we are looking for families who would like to get involved. If you would like to repeat the experience, do let me know. I have dates of 9th April 2017 for a
return visit to Lyon for approximately one week. This can be for those who have hosted already or those who would like to host. Cost will be dependent on
numbers. If you are interested, get in touch for more information.
Please see the attached letter for important points regarding the last weeks of term; there are some deadlines and confirmation of timings. If there are any
kind souls out there who would be happy to help set up and serve the Christingle refreshments from around 4.45 to the start of the service then please
do get in touch. In the meantime, have a restful weekend; there’s no let up from now on until the end of term with the next week being particularly busy!

CELEBRATING ST CATHERINE
by guest reporter Ruth, Year 6
For the last few weeks, 6R have been busy preparing an assembly on St Catherine of Alexandria. St Catherine is the Patron Saint of Haberdashers.
6R performed this on the 25th November, as this was the anniversary of when Catherine was beheaded in 305AD. The girls even put together a rap
containing historical facts about Catherine, together with some funny dance moves. They dressed up in costumes including Rattus Rattus from the TV
programme Horrible Histories! It was full of humour and until today, not many of us in Inglefield House knew about St Catherine.

JUNIOR SCIENCE CLUB VOLCANOES
Girls at Junior Science club have almost reached the end of their current project. Their models were skilfully painted this week, and next week we intend
to bring them to life, using household chemicals to create erupting volcanoes. Make sure that you come in and have a look at the models, which are in
the art area.
HAVING A GREAT TIME!!!
by Hannah S, Bella and Daisy P, Year 5
Years 5 and 6 went to a funky disco with the Prep 3 and 4 boys from The Grange. We had lots of fun and even played some amazing games which were
so much fun! We danced to some hit songs and we had the boys set up at the front dabbing like mad. After a lot of fun and games we had a yummy snack
and a drink before playing more games and then going home. All the Inglefield Girls who went to this event can agree that they had a great time so thank
you to all the teachers who helped putting the disco together!
THE PERFECT POEM - “THE FIRE WITHIN”
by Lily, Year 6
Day by day the Christingle service, on 2nd December, is creeping up on all of the girls in Inglefield House. As a part of this, before half term, as a group,
Year 6 came up with some fabulous phrases in order for a poem to be formed that will be performed at Christingle. To make the phrases for the poem
even more fantastic than in class, the girls brainstormed some more at home. The following day, all of the phrases the girls came up with were handed
in, so that Mrs Watts Jones and Mrs Champion, could slot every phrase together, to make the perfect poem for Christingle. Since coming back from
half term, the Year 6 girls have been working their socks off (in order to wear tights as required at the Christingle!) to get the poem “The Fire Within” as
perfect as possible. Thanks to both Mrs Watts Jones’ and Mrs Champion’s efforts in organising everything, and all of the girls committing themselves. The
performance should be stunning!

RAMBLE DAZZLE
by Erika, Year 5
Last Sunday pupils from all years in Inglefield House, together with friends from The Grange and Agincourt, went on a charity walk for Children in Need.
We raised over £180 for the charity and over 18 families went on the ramble. There were dogs everywhere! All of the money we raised will be used to
help children around the world who are in need of supportive help. All around the world people help raise money for Children in Need and the whole of the
world managed to raise £46,624,259 this year.
CHILDREN IN NEED CONCERT
by Daisy S, Year 6
Last Wednesday HMSG staged a concert in aid of Children in Need. It was a fantastic concert featuring music and dance performed by girls from Senior
School and some boys from Monmouth School. Even teachers took part in a series of dances with Miss Parry’s wonderful dancing with the IT man and
finishing with Mr Arrand’s dab. Mr Conway dressed up as Elvis and performed a song with HMSG girls as his backing dancers. The Concert Choir sang
Bohemian Rhapsody with Mr Arrand singing the bass parts, which was very funny, and Dr Pascoe learnt to play the accordian and performed a duet with
Mr Conway. All in all a fantastic evening with excellent performers all round, very funny interludes and raising money for a great cause. At the end of the
evening they raised more than £3500.
TRAMPOLINERS BOUNCE TO GLORY
by Megan, Year 5
Last weekend there was Welsh Schools trampoline championships in
Cardiff in which several Inglefield House girls competed for their school.
Niamh, Clemmie and Petra competed in the U11 Novice team event and
finished in a fabulous first place. To complete a fantastic weekend, Zoe
also finished first, this time in the U11 Individual. They all said they loved
representing the school. Zoe said “It was great fun especially finishing in
first place”. Niamh added “It was great fun, awesome and thrilling when
you bounced”. Overall they all did really well. Congratulations girls!

MATHER’S COLD/SOGGY HOCKEY
VICTORY
by Carys, Year 5
Mather did very well in house hockey as they came 1st place! It was a
rainy, wet, cold and miserable day, but Mather continued like none of that
was happening. Our hands went bright blue, our arms had goose bumps,
our legs were unsteady and we were very cold and wet!!

Mather vs Imbert Terry – Mather won
Third match
Mather vs Bagnall Oakeley – Mather won
PERFECT PROSSER
by Izzy, Year 5
The Prossers smashed this hockey match but not everything was
sunshine and rainbows mostly because it was raining. You may have
been thinking the goalies were lucky because they could not feel the
cold but when the rain came it got through the helmet and in to their eyes
and they could not wipe it off because their helmet and their gloves were
too big. Bella the center mid and captain (with Lucinda) said “I thought it
went extremely well after we played The Mathers!”. After all their efforts
Prosser came 2nd !!!
AMAZING IMBERT TERRY
by Bethan, Year 5
BAGNALL’S RACE TO THIRD PLACE
by Sienna and Scarlett, Year 5
This was a great experience for Bagnall Oakeley. They had a great
victory, coming 3rd place in House Hockey and it brought back some
happy feelings. Bagnall had a tough day at the hockey match. It was
raining and the hockey team got soaked but they still carried on.
There are lots of positions in the Bagnall house hockey team. There
are Goal Keeper, Left Wing, Right Wing, Left Defence, Right Defence,
Centre Forward and Centre Midfield.
Imbert players tried their hardest at the House Hockey, but did not win.
It was freezing and windy. Most of the goals were saved by Imbert’s
amazing goalkeeper Izzy, but sadly Imbert came last.

A girl visiting from another school came and played in the House Hockey.
She was in Imbert and was a sub in all the matches. She was a defender
like me. I think she was very good at hockey, and she goes to a different
school where they may not even play hockey!
FANTASTIC FOOTBALL
by Zsazsi and Sophie, Year 6
It was Saturday when all was quiet until a group of young football players from Inglefield turned up. The girls had come together to play a match that will
go down in history for the girls’ victory. Their opponents were Monmouth town and the girls really started to heat things up. The match was very well played
and the girls say that they played extremely well as a team. Bea from Year 6 managed to score a whole eight goals that made her end up with a big smile
on her face and Izzy Habdank from Year 6 scored an amazing 5 goals which made her incredibly proud of herself and Nikki Mathuesson also from Year
6 scored two goals leaving the girls with a terrific total of fifteen goals! The match ended as 15-8 to the very well deserved winners from Inglefield House.
The girls thanked Mr McCluskey and Mr Meek for putting in all the hard work and effort for them and for also leading them to an amazing victory at the end
of a very tiring game. Keep up the hard work!

CHECK MATE!
by Xanthe and Joana, Year 5
On Saturday 20th November the Inglefield House Chess team went to the Grange for a chess tournament. It was between six schools and there were
seven rounds. Unfortunately, the IH team came last, but all the girls tried their hardest… Mr Thomas, the chess coach, was very impressed with the
standard that the seven girls played. Hopefully they can do better next year.
