GRANGE NEWS
A note from the Head of the Grange
I am writing this on Thursday as I am attending the national finals for the Science Quiz at Oxford University on Friday. Depending on
the timings, we may just be able to get the results of the quiz in today’s newsletter. If not, follow us on Twitter to find out how our boys
got on. This has been an exceptional week from the fun of The Grange inaugural Pancake Races (Nelson won!) to two fascinating
science themed assemblies including Monmouth School’s amazing “space man” Sam, and his high-altitude balloons. We have also
celebrated St David’s Day and World Book Day in style and the greatest joy of all was supporting The Grange boys’ acts in Junior
Monmouth’s Got Talent at The Bridges Centre on Wednesday. Well done to Phillip, Miles, Henry and Will for amazing performances
and for truly entertaining us. I am so glad I only had to attend as a spectator, and didn’t have to judge the eclectic range of talents on
display. Looking back I can’t quite believe we fitted everything in, but not surprisingly we have a bumper edition of the newsletter for
you today. It’s all in a week’s work at The Grange!

EISTEDDFOD
Last Friday afternoon allowed us all to see what a talented group of boys that we have at The Grange. Their musical performances were excellent and
the Choir sang beautifully in preparation for their concert next week. The House Choral Poetry was very entertaining, ending in Grenville House winning
with their rendition of ‘Charge of the Light Brigade’. This wasn’t enough to stop Drake though, who were crowned winners of the Eisteddfod, 2017.
SCIENCE ASSEMBLIES
The boys have been treated to two science
assemblies this week. The first, led by Dr Wall,
explained how other planets, which could
sustain life, have been found. The second, led
by Sam from Monmouth School’s 6th form,
described his High Altitude Balloon project,
where he sends balloons to the edge of space.

PREP III VISIT THE ROYAL MINT
How well do you know the coins in your pocket? The PIII boys found out a wealth of information on their visit to the Royal Mint in Llantristant.
Boys were led along the full production process and learnt about the life of a coin. They visited the Coin Press Room to see how blank pieces of metal
become coins for the United Kingdom and countries around the world. They saw the mint in action, where millions of coins are produced 24 hours a day,
7 days a week. We may have inspired a few more boys to become numismatists.
