During the months of October and Nov
November
2014, the Mayor of Ongwediva held a series of
community meetings to inform residents about
the development plans of the Council and to
engage the community at large on a wide range of
issues affecting the town and its residents.
His Worship Asino in his introductory remarks,
thanked the community of Ongwediva for
embracing the development agenda of the town
over the years as clearly demonstrated by the
positive feedback that Council has been receiving
from various sectors of society. He however
urges the community to equally honour their
commitments by diligently paying for services
rendered by the Town Council. That, he said,
shall enable the Council to extend services to
all the corners of the town where such services
are not readily available. “Let’s work together to
ensure a bright future for the town, let’s own the
development process to ensure sustainability of
our plans and projects” the first citizen urged the
residents.
In order to give credence to the consultative
process, the Mayor assured the residents of
the town that the lessons learned through the
consultative public meetings, shall be used as
a basis to develop the income and expenditure
framework of Council for the Financial Year
2015/16 and beyond.
His Worship Jason Asino also took the opportunity
to urge all residents of Ongwediva to exercise
political tolerance and demonstrate political
maturity before, during and after the upcoming
Presidential and National Assembly Elections.
“Please go out there in big numbers to exercise
your democratic right and cast your vote at any of
the designated polling stations without fear, come
28 November 2014” he said.
“I wish you all a peaceful Festive Season and
a productive and prosperous year 2015” he
concluded.

Land is the most fundamental resource of
any city or town. Its use and application
affects the relationship of all urban activities
and therefore needs to be balanced by
effective local governance to ensure
equitable results.
Land delivery in Ongwediva follows four
complex processes. These are: Land
Compensation, Township Establishment,
Provision of Services Infrastructure and
allocation of erven.
The process to establish two new extensions
at Efidilomulunga has commenced and is
progressing well.
Extension Efidi Proper and Extension
1 Efidi consist of 600 erven that will be
allocated to applicants on the waiting list
who are first time home owners. Council
is currently engaged in negotiations with
crop field owners at Omatando 1, 2 & 3 and
hope to finalize the process and commence
with township establishment during the first
half of 2015.
Over the past three years, Ongwediva Town
Council has successfully compensated and
relocated 20 subsistence farmers and 46
land occupants to pave way for development
at
Elyambala,
Etapalanangonyoto,
Efidilomulunga, Oidiva and Omatando 1 &
2.

December 1
is a day dedicated to commemorate
those who have passed on and to raise
awareness about AIDS and the global
spread of the HIV virus.
The first World AIDS Day was held in 1988
after health ministers from around the
world met in London, England and agreed
to such a day as a way of highlighting
the enormity of the AIDS pandemic and
nations’ responsibility to ensure universal
treatment, care and support for people
living with HIV and AIDS.
Led by the World AIDS Campaign
organization, the theme for World AIDS
Day 2014 is”Getting to zero.” Zero New
HIV Infections. Zero Discrimination and
Zero AIDS-related deaths.
Ongwediva Town Council will join the
world in commemorating the World Aids
Day and has organised the march from
the traffic lights via Ehenge Street, Dr
Libertine Amathila Street to the Mayor’s
Park. The aim is to create awareness on
the issue of HIV and AIDS. The day will be
rounded off with a play/drama on living
positively.
