Fully synthetic oil filter elements

Fully synthetic oil filter elements
A new generation of filter elements for engine oil filtration
Oil filter elements rid the
circulating engine oil of particles and thus protect the
engine against damage and
increased wear and tear.
The demands made on the
oil filter elements increase
with the continuing development of engines.
Aspects such as the reduction of consumption and the extension of service intervals push the
development of modern combustion engines along decisively. Both are gentle on the environment and resources and also lower costs for the owner of the vehicle.
The demands made of the oil filter elements increase with the continuing development of
engines. The service intervals of oil filters in modern cars have already reached 50,000 km and
are rising further. This has led to the use of new lubricants and fuels, new combustion methods
and a large number of further optimizations. The oil filter element, as an integral part of the
oil circulation, must be adapted to these new, tougher demands by actively and continuously
developing and advancing the product. The filter medium, as the primary function bearer,
is in the focus of this.
The oil filter element of the future is made completely of plastic. MANN+HUMMEL presents
the first completely plastic oil filter element as a start of a new generation of completely
synthetic oil filter elements for engine oil filtration.

A leader in filter media technology
Polyester replaces cellulose

The two-layered filter medium comprises a support and
drainage layer as well as an active filter layer with an optimized
layer set-up. This set-up and the individual layers specifically
matched to one another, guarantee maximum filtration performance with regard to filter fineness, dirt holding capacity and
pressure loss. The completely synthetic filter element technology and the filter media can be used for all engine applications and designs of filter elements and can also be used
retro-compatibly for existing applications. The completely synthetic oil filter enables longer service intervals and is disposed
of in a manner beneficial to the environment.
Filter media strength
100
As rule, oil filter media used to be between 70 and 100 percent of cellulose. Extensive examinations on the complex
chemistry of the aging of oil in modern engines, however,
showed that, in particular, cellulose as a basic fiber material
is subject to considerable disintegration. MANN+HUMMEL,
therefore, developed a new filter material completely without
cellulose. It is replaced in the completely synthetic oil filter
medium by a fleece made of polyester, which is up to 15 times
more resistant to aging than cellulose. It can be adapted to
the varying demands of the automotive manufacturers with
the help of further polymer plastics.
