Jessica started with the Child Care Food Program in August. She has already had the pleasure of meeting many of you! If you see her here in the office, or out and about, please offer her a warm welcome! Jessica with her two children ages 2 and 4. The New Meal Pattern Has Arrived! More info to come...here are some highlights… Children: Breakfast cereal can now contain no more than 6 grams of sugar and must be on the approved WIC list of cereals. Flavored milks cannot be served to children under the age of 6. At least one grain item per day must be 100% whole grain. Grain based desserts (e.g. cookies, donuts, granola bars, animal cracker, graham cracker) will no longer count toward meeting the grain requirement. Infants: Infants are now divided into two age groups (0-5 months and 6-11 months). Solid meal components would not be introduced until 6 months of age and only when the infant is developmentally ready. Fruit juice is not allowed for infants at any age. Parents can ONLY provide ONE component. The provider must provide all the other components for the meal to be reimbursable. All providers should have received a link to a YouTube video and training module that introduced the new meal pattern requirements. If you have not received this email please contact your monitor ASAP! https://youtu.be/aMLFAAcH4NQ DON’T FORGET TO SEND IN YOUR TRAINING CERTIFICATE FOR THE NEW MEAL PATTERN BEFORE NOVEMBER 30TH! Thank you! Little Leaders of Tomorrow was recently selected to participate in the “Study of Nutrition & Activities in Child Care Centers”. Thank you for participating Little Leaders of Tomorrow! Do not change your meal times without contacting your monitor! CHANGES TO THE CCFP MEAL PATTERN ARE BEING PROPOSED The Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act requires USDA to update the CCFP Meal Patterns for Infants and Children. This is the first major revision of the CCFP Meal Patterns since the program began in 1968. The CACFP meal patterns webpage is a great one-stop shop for all the proposed rule resources. It includes one-page summaries of the proposed infant and child meal patterns, a copy of the CACFP Meal Pattern Proposed Rule webinar, and instructions on how to provide public comment. Check out the link at: http://www.fns.usda.gov/cacfp/meals-and-snacks The proposed changes will have a significant impact on what you will be able to serve infants and children. You can make comments on these changes until April 15, 2015 by clicking on the link above. If you don’t agree with the proposals, now is the time to speak up. YOUR ORIGINAL MEAL COUNT SHEET Just A Reminder... SHOULD NEVER LEAVE THE CENTER! Your original Meal Count Sheet must always be available at your center in order to record meal counts within ONE HOUR after the meal is served. Use pencil when recording meal counts. Make a copy of your Meal Count Sheet if you need to take it out of the center. Failing to use the approved red stamped 4C Meal Count Sheet to record meals can result in a disallowance of all the meals served for the month. DID YOU KNOW? Monitors check receipts to be sure they back up the items on the menu. Receipts without a date or store name cannot be included. Copies of receipts must be clearly readable. Each receipt should show how the purchase was paid for. Items labeled “grocery”, “produce” or “Great Value” must be clearly identified or they will be crossed off. QUESTIONS?
