WHY PETROS NETWORK?
A PROPHETIC WORD FROM ETHIOPIA
“You have been given to Ethiopia,
but Ethiopia has been given to you.”
For certain, God has called us to Ethiopia. The results we
are witnessing declare that truth! But God has also given
Ethiopia to us as a reminder of the HOPE we have in Christ.
Because of the great work that has begun in Ethiopia, several
individuals, organizations, and ministries have asked to join
Portland Christian Center on this great adventure. We have
launched Petros Network to continue our ministry and expand
our network. Petros Network remains an important ministry
of Portland Christian Center while allowing others to partner
with us.
The Meaning Behind the Name
Ethiopia is divided up into:
Petros Network derives both its name and calling from its
missional verse, found in Matthew 16:18-19:
1. REGIONAL STATES—Oromia
“And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build
my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it…”
2. ZONES—West Shewa
3. DISTRICTS—Jeldu
4. TOWNS—Gojo (where we hold our trainings)
5. VILLAGES—where there are now 599 new church plants
in unreached villages

“The Jeldu District, Oromia Region of Ethiopia was
known for its rebellious actions. Witchcraft was
prevalent throughout the zone and witch doctors held
positions of leadership in most of the villages. But, as
God has moved in, Satan has moved out.
The Greek word for Peter is petros, which means a small pebble.
It was upon Peter’s faith declaration in verse 16, “You are the
Messiah, the Son of the living God” that Jesus said He would
build His church into a prevailing, unstoppable force throughout
the world. That faith declaration, “the rock” to which Jesus
referred, was now the Greek word petra, a large mountain.
As we view ourselves, we are very much like Peter (petros)—
small and insignificant—but our faith in and commitment to
serve Christ’s purpose to build His church throughout the world
is big and determined (petra). As we offer ourselves to His call,
Christ himself has given us His blessing and authority to build
prevailing, change producing churches in His name wherever
we go. We firmly believe that where a church is, Jesus is! And
where Jesus is, there is HOPE and TRANSFORMATION.
We have witnessed firsthand entire communities changing their way
of life. We now see evidence of transformation, peace, security, social
restoration, cleanliness, and community development. Many witch doctors
have stopped their work, come to know Christ, or left their homes because
of the power of the gospel.

God has moved in signs and wonders, healing the physically sick, mad
people have become normal, demon possessed are delivered, paralytics
are healed, the blind are able to see, and the deaf are able to hear. Church
planters enter villages that have never heard the name of Jesus before.
Church planters (also know as missionary pastors) pray, sometimes night
and day, for God to show His mighty works. Some days one person comes
to Jesus; some days many come to Jesus.
