To provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program that addresses the academic, career, and personal/ social development of all students. RACHEL’S CHALLENGE At Northeastern Middle School As part of Northeastern Middle School’s comprehensive guidance plan, students learn pro-social skills. Rachel's Challenge is an empowering student program that provides students and adults with strategies to combat bullying and ally feelings of isolation and despair by creating a culture of kindness and compassion. The program is based on the writings and life of 17 year-old Rachel Scott who was the first student killed at Columbine High School in 1999. Rachel left a legacy of reaching out to those who were different, who were picked on by others, or who were new at her school. INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Rachel’s Challenge 2 NHS Transition Events 3 Dates to Remember 3 The core component of Rachel's Challenge is a spellbinding and impassioned school assembly that tells the story of Rachel Scott and inspires a desire for change among students. It is unique in that the assembly is followed up with student training and a permanent school club. While it strives to inspire campus and community-wide change, Rachel's Challenge starts with individual students who have been motivated to release their inner desire to treat others with respect.
