What Can Parents do to Support your Student?
Parent Support for the ELA Shifts…

Ask your child to share his/her textbooks (Science, Social Studies, Health) with you.
Ask your child to give you “evidence” supporting their beliefs from what their reading or experiences.
Encourage reading and writing, and allow it to be “hard” or for your child to “grapple” at times.
Parent Support for the Math Shifts…
Ensure that your child knows his/her Math Facts.
Engage in a real world Math problem/discussion when it exists in your own life.
Share your thinking, about how you would find the answer to a problem, with your child.
Get to know what your child is learning at their particular grade level.
