JULIA MERCEDES-CASTILLA is the author of 15 books in English and in Spanish. She was
named Writer of the Year 2014 by the Spanish Book Fair. Her books, short stories, and
articles have been published in Latin America, the United States, Africa, and India. She
lives in Texas.
Illustrator Bio
STEPHANIE HARLOW is a Philadelphia- based illustrator. She holds a combined degree in
Illustration and Animation from Laguna College of Art and Design. LALO WANTS A REAL
NAME is her first children’s book.
