The Galerie des Glaces at Versailles is still the most splendid room
in France. ❦ It was originally equipped with solid silver chairs and
furniture. ❦ However, the furniture lasted only 10 years. ❦ It was sent
to the French Mint in 1689 to be melted for bullion which was needed
to finance the War of the League of Augsburg.
2026 This Versailles Chair has been a favorite for generations. This highly carved and beaded frame is stamped
with the influence of the design of Jean Baptiste Lelarge, circa 1775.
