Bainbridge Free Library`s Where`s Eddie The Eagle Hunt? Grand

VOL. 3 ISSUE 1
Winter 2017
The holidays are behind us and we look forward to all of our upcoming winter activities. In this issue we highlight some
of those activities and also some of the manufacturing facilities in Bainbridge.
Bainbridge Free Library’s Where’s
Eddie The Eagle Hunt?
Grand Prize Winners
The “Where’s Eddie the Eagle?” sleuth hunt was made
possible by a grant from BOOKS from Senator Fred
Akshar. The library would like to thank all those
businesses and offices that helped to make this an exciting
and fun event for the children.
Last month children in Bainbridge searched for laminated
pictures of Eddie the Eagle hidden in 28 businesses and
government offices throughout the community. To enter
the hunt, children picked up a passport and visited the
businesses and government offices to look for Eddie.
Once they spotted him, the storekeeper stamped their
passport.
Children, with at least six stamps, received a book during
the library open house on Saturday, December 10. All of
the children who visited 12 or more locations were also
entered in a contest for a first, second, and third prize,
which consisted of a Family Fun Night package at Galaxy
Bowl, a candy bouquet, and a stuffed Eddie. Winners of
the prizes were first place, Jillian Langstaff, second place,
Brock Porter, and third place, Kaitlyn Curtis.
The New York State Department of Transportation
honored the Jericho Garden Club of Bainbridge with the
ADOPT A HIGHWAY sign for planting 1000 daffodil
bulbs on their property adjacent to I88 West. The JGC
thanks everyone from the community for their help! Look
for a beautiful field of daffodils in the spring.

6th Annual Youth Boy’s & Girl’s Basketball Tournament
on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Bainbridge-Guilford
High School. The tournament includes 16 – 20 boys and

The past year’s tournaments have been a huge success and
we have received tremendous support from area businesses

young athletes have the opportunity to participate, all of
the proceeds from the annual tournaments are used to help
support our youth programs.
We are seeking sponsors for this year’s event. A portion
of the monetary donations will go toward t-shirts that will
be given to every student-athlete who participates in the
event. For those who sponsor $50.00 or more, your logo
will be shown as a sponsor of the event on the back of the
t-shirt. If you would like to donate toward this year’s

Machinist Tool Technology
[email protected]
The Machinist Tool Technology class at Bainbridge –
Guilford is a program designed to prepare students for
career pathways in the machinist field. Students are
learning aspects of a variety of applied technologies
including: Manufacturing, Print Reading, Precision
Measurement, Metallurgy, Machine Operation and
Computer Programing. Students in the class are designing
parts using AutoDesk Inventor, creating process sheets,
and creating G-Code (CNC program language). Students
use two band saws, two milling machines, three lathes and
a CNC (Computer Numeric Control) mill to produce the
parts. Students also use a 3D printer for prototyping new
designs.
services which comply in all respects with the agreed
requirements of the customer.
The goal of this course is to prepare students to work as
entry-level machinists at a machine shop. Even though the
program is in a classroom setting, the class is designed to
replicate a workplace environment. Students also take field
trips to local machine shops to see how manufacturing is
done in our local community.

Payne’s Cranes Inc.
In 1970 John W. Payne, the founder and CEO of Payne’s
Cranes, Inc. purchased a small construction company, with
one dump truck and a backhoe. He changed the name of
the business to John W. Payne Excavation and
immediately started to expand the business that would later
become John W. Payne Construction Inc. This early
expansion included a well-planned program of continued
investment in new equipment. One of these early
acquisitions was a small cable rigged crane. Mr. Payne
originally purchased the crane to handle small local jobs;
however, he soon established a relationship with nearby
UNA-LAM a division of Unadilla Silo Co. a major
producer of engineered glue-lam beams for large
structures. This and other similar relationships allowed the
firm to expand its horizon to a company that covers the
entire East Coast of the US and the addition of a new
company, Payne’s Cranes Inc.
Today Payne’s Cranes, Inc., with over 47 years experience
working with all major laminated beam manufacturers, as
well as their customers, Natural Gas industry, and other
contractors all over North East, John W. Payne the
President and founder of the company, along with Gregg
Eldridge the Vice President, are dedicated to providing
their customers with solutions developed through their
years of experience in glue-lam erection and other crane
related problems.
All of the cranes in the Payne’s Cranes inventory are
hydraulic and 30% are all terrain designs. These cranes
range in size from 33 ton to 350 ton with boom and job
lengths from 127 feet to 400 feet. All of Payne’s Cranes
operators have the necessary licenses to allow them to
work in any state and, along with the crews that work with
them, have the expertise that makes their customers feel
confident the job will be done safely and right.

information, please contact John at 607-316-6854 or Gregg

Support Local Brick and Mortar Stores
Cinda Baxter, President and Founder of the 3/50
Project is a retail consultant and professional speaker
whose mission is to strengthen independent brick and
mortar businesses.
Cinda suggests consumers
should consider the following when working to save
the local economy where they live.

What three independently owned businesses
would you miss if they disappeared? Stop in.
Say hello. Pick up something that brings a

smile. Your purchases are what keep those
businesses around.
Remember that if half the employed population
spent $50 each month in locally owned
independent businesses, it would generate more
than $42.6 billion in revenue. Imagine the
positive impact if three quarters of the employed
did that.
For every $100 spent in locally owned
independent stores, $68 returns to the
community through taxes, payroll, and other
expenditures. This occurs because of the

Multiplier effect as small businesses hire local

from each other. If you spend that in a national
