Louise See Hoe - PhD Candidate
'Mechanisms and clinically relevant actions of sustained ligand-activated preconditioning (SLP)'
I graduated from a Bachelor of Biomedical Science from Griffith
University in 2007. After a few months’ work as a Technical Assistant, I
accepted the role as Senior Research Assistant for the Heart
Foundation Research Centre at Griffith University for Prof.
John Headrick. After working in this position for 3 years, I decided to
undertake my own PhD project to further my career. My project titled
'Mechanisms and clinically relevant actions of sustained ligand-activated
preconditioning (SLP)', aims to uncover the biochemical signalling
pathways of our novel therapy that leads to potent protection against the
injury generated after a heart attack. This novel therapy (SLP) is
important because it protects both older and diseased hearts, which is a
striking difference to the current limited therapies that exist which all
lose their potency in this target population.
