The Young Artist Concerto Competition
offers young artists the benefit of competitive activity in a professional environment. We hope to award cash prizes
to three high school and three college
students. Judges reserve the right to
withhold awards in any category if a suitable entrant is not heard during the competition.
WHO MAY ENTER: High school and
undergraduate college students (ages 1422) may enter the Young Artist Concerto
Competition. Winners will be chosen
from the following: strings, woodwinds,
brass, piano, percussion, voice (college
only).
REPERTOIRE: Applicants should be
prepared to perform one movement of a
standard concerto for their voice or instrument and orchestra from memory.
The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra
reserves the right to determine the suitable repertoire for the competition.
Movements longer than 12 minutes require the approval of the Mississippi
Symphony Orchestra.
ACCOMPANISTS: All contestants are
responsible for their own accompanists.
Upon request the Mississippi Symphony
Orchestra will offer a list of available
accompanists in the Jackson area, but the
contestant must make their own arrangements for an accompanist. The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra assumes no
artistic responsibility for the accompanists recommended.
AWARDS: Cash prizes will be given to
the first, second and third place winners
in the high school and collegiate divisions ($600, $400, $200). The Missis-
sippi Symphony Orchestra reserves the
right to select one of the six winners to
perform with the Mississippi Symphony
Orchestra during the 2008-9 season.
ENTRY FEE: $75 (non-refundable)
