Course Description: Sixth grade Spanish is an introductory course in which all four language domains (reading,
writing, listening, and speaking) are practiced daily. Students will complete the preliminary unit on basic Spanish
vocabulary such as colors, numbers, the alphabet, and weather as well as “small talk” conversation vocabulary
such as greetings, leave-takings, and introductions. Students will also complete the all about me unit, which
focuses on describing yourself and expressing likes and dislikes. Sixth graders will study the geography of
Spanish-speaking countries around the world as well as the Hispanic culture of the United States.

Unit Summary:
In the preliminary unit, students will greet people and say goodbye, introduce themselves and others, ask and say
how to spell names, say where they are from, exchange phone numbers, say what the day of the week is, describe
the weather, and respond to classroom instructions. Additionally, students will understand the Hispanic culture of
New York City.
