Principal’s Message
Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,
On behalf of the Our Lady of the Fatima Catholic Elementary School Staff, I would like to
wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas. It is our hope that you enjoy a blessed,
safe and relaxing Christmas Season with your family and friends.
Please take some time to read about some of the important happenings
taking place in our school community this month, including: the Annual Red
Stocking Campaign (Nov. 29-Dec. 11), our School Advent Mass (Sunday, Dec
4th at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Visitation ), Guest Speaker, Chris Bray
brings his ‘Spreading the Faith’ message to OLOF on Dec. 5, our School
Christmas Concert (Dec. 20, 6:30 p.m.), and Our Lady of Fatima tradition—
The Christmas Turkey Lunch (Dec 22). A reminder that parents and families
are always welcome to join us for assemblies, and presentations - we just ask
that you first sign in at the office.
If you haven’t already done so, please consider signing up for
‘School Cash Online’ through our school website. It is a safe
alternative to sending cash to school with your child. By using
School Cash Online you are also helping to reduce our use of
paper since consent for excursions can also be done online now.
God Bless and Merry Christmas,
Mr. D. Lynch

Healthy Holiday Celebrations!
Holiday celebrations allow schools the opportunity to make
nutritious foods taste great. They also provide an opportunity for
students to learn about healthy eating. With a little creativity, you
can help students practice what they know about healthy eating and
Canada’s Food Guide during the holiday celebrations!
Shift the focus from food to fun!
 Have a tasting party where kids can vote which healthy foods
they would like to have. Including kids in the decision making may enhance their acceptance of healthy
foods at celebrations
 Ask parents to bring things like games, crafts and other fun activity items instead of food
Food Ideas
Use nature’s colours to your advantage! There are a ton of vegetables to match the colours of the season.
 Create a Christmas tree out of broccoli and various veggies as tree ornaments
 Use carrot sticks as a representation of Hanukah candles
 Make fruit kabobs, alternating green and red grapes, or green and red apple pieces
 Decorate mini bagel holiday ornaments with colourful veggies cut in a variety of shapes
Annual Christmas Concert - Dec 20th
Our Lady of Fatima Annual Christmas Concert will take place in the gym on Tuesday, December 20th at 6:30 pm for grades JK-8. A dress rehearsal will be held the
same day at 1:00 pm and family and friends who cannot make the evening performance are welcome to attend at that time. In the evening, students should be in
their classrooms by 6:15 pm. The entire school will gather to sing the final song.
For safety reasons, we ask that children be
picked up in their classroom. The concert will
last approximately 1 hour.
The Learning Commons News
As part of this year’s transition of our Library to a Learning Commons model,
a Makerspace will be soon added to our space. This will support student education in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM).
As well as some additional “maker” activities coming soon, we have a Lego
wall being installed in the next 4-6 weeks. We are in great need of Lego pieces for this wall as well as for an
upcoming Lego Makers Club. If you have any used (or new) Lego you would be willing to donate it would be
greatly appreciated. They can be dropped off at the office or at the Learning Commons.
Thank you!
