Acesports and Athletics Wellington T&F present the 2017 TEAMLEDGER BAYLEYS Capital Classic Track & Field Meeting
Welcome to the Capital
Welcome to Newtown Park on behalf of Athletics Wellington for the 2017 Capital Classic.
This is the 13th edition of the Capital Classic and after such fabulous success by athletics at the Rio Olympics last
year, we are all very excited moving into the business part of the domestic season. It is great to see some of our
Olympians and Paralympians here tonight and we feel very privileged that they have made the trip to Wellington.
We would, in fact, like to thank all athletes, coaches and officials who have made the journey to The Capital this
year in what looks likely to be a hugely competitive meet.
As well as the main Classic program we also welcome back the Athletics NZ 3000m Championships that has
bought our very best men and women runners for this event. We thank Athletics NZ for giving us the opportunity
once again to hold this prestigious race.
I would also like to thank Tony Rogers and his team who have worked tirelessly over the last few months with both
athletes and sponsors to ensure this will be a fantastic evening.
We do hope you have a great night and thank you for coming along to support what is the highlight of the
Wellington Athletics Calendar.
Charlie Nairne
Chairman, Athletics Wellington
To our Athletes, VIPs, Sponsors, Officials and Spectators we would like to extend a very warm welcome to
2017 TEAM LEDGER BAYLEYS Capital Classic Track and Field Meeting. A special welcome to our successful
Olympians here in support of the meeting
We wish to acknowledgement the tremendous support once again to Mike and Tania Ledger our naming right
sponsor “TEAM LEDGER BAYLEYS” for your Meet support and continuing the North v South Challenge Trophy.
Sincere thanks also to our valued family of sponsors. A big welcome on board this year to Craig and Jayne Hudgell
and their team of excellent sports people at Absolute Insurance. Continued support from The Brian Taylor
Memorial Trust, the team at Fuji Xerox in Wakefield Street now in the eighth year of support and the Brentwood
Hotel for continuing to provide excellent affordable local accommodation for our meet as well Tim Connolly of SAS
Sports Apparel and Kenneth Rodriguez of EFTPOS Specialists Welligton. Appreciation is acknowledged to the
Wellington City Council and the Phoenix for cooperation again in sharing the facility here in Newtown Park, and the
Athletics NZ for their support in allowing hosting rights again for the National 3000 m championships.
The Capital Classic, in partnership with Allan & Sylvia Potts Classic and Cooks Classic appreciate the generous
support of SILENI Estates to enable the group of visiting Australian athletes to add value to our meetings. This year
we also welcome visitors from Singapore, Japan and Germany making it a truly international flavour.
This year’s record athlete entries continue to vindicate the success of the Capital meet.
2017 is a World Championships year, so we wish all athletes success at chasing qualifying targets to achieve their
pinnacle dreams and for aspiring athletes targeting the World Youth Track & Field Championships
Please all enjoy the competitive spectacle that our small but dedicated team have put together. We acknowledge
sincere thanks to Jim & Karen McIlroy, Jo Murray and Charlie Nairne for their leadership with ACE Sports. We
congratulate and acknowledge Athletics NZ President Peter Maunder who was a member of the inaugural
Organising committee for the first edition of the CAPITAL in 2005 and has been a valued technical official at all
meetings since. We look forward to seeing all of you again next year for the 2018 edition.
Good luck for the rest of your summer
Best wishes - Tony & Simon Rogers – ACE Sports - Meeting Directors

Competition Rules
Important information for competitors
The Capital Classic will be conducted under the rules of Athletics New Zealand.
All competitors must be registered with Athletics New Zealand, and compete in their Club or an approved uniform.
Stadium entry: Athletes must enter the track by the door behind the stand near the finishing line end, which
is 70 metres from the main gate. Entry through this door for athletes will be free, by quoting your name and
event, and being checked by the registration official at athlete check in. Your event Lanyard then is your
entry pass.
This room is the Technical Information Centre. Pick up your numbers when you enter.
Competition Numbers: Numbers are to be worn and must be displayed on the front of the uniform during
competition. Walkers will wear numbers front and back. Pole Vaulters may wear on their back.
Entry Confirmation: All athletes must confirm their entry by signature when picking up their competition
numbers, at least 90 minutes before the scheduled start of their event for track and 60 minutes before the
scheduled start of their event for field athletes.
Only athletes who confirm their entry will be drawn in the fields for the event.
Scratching: A competitor who wishes to scratch from and event must do so in person to the Technical
Information Centre as soon as possible.
Draws: Track: Lane Draws will be published after all confirmed entries are received, and posted on an
information board outside the Technical Information Centre.
Jumps and Field: The competing order will be as set out by the draw sheets published 60 minutes prior to the
event. If required Men’s and Women’s events will be conducted concurrently.
Reporting Times: Athletes must report to the start line or the field event position no later than 10 minutes
before the scheduled start of the event.
Warming up: Warming up is not allowed on the main field. Warming up can be done on the top field or
outside the stadium. If you warm up on the top field or outside the stadium take your number with you to
show to the gate steward to re-gain entry
Start heights: The start heights for the Pole Vault and High Jump will be decided on the day after athletes
have reported to the officials.
Implement weigh in: Implements must be presented for weigh in at the Gear Shed by the 100m start, no
later than 1 hour before the event is scheduled.
Post event procedure and availability for interview and or drug testing: Athletes must leave the competition
area after their event is completed. Care should be taken not to interfere with other events which will be
under way.
All Athletes are requested to remain available after their event if required by the Drug Testing Agency for
testing. News media and infield interviews are also likely for winners, and they are likely to be undertaken in
front of the grandstand.
All Athletes should listen to the Public Address and report if and when requested for any presentations.
