The students already have a basic understanding of the English language. The students know how to work together. The students feel safe speaking English in class. The students know how to work with a camera. What happened last time? Not Applicable Teacher’s objectives It is the teachers job to make sure all students participate. Whenever the teacher speaks to a student, it will be in the target language. The teacher will also assist students that still do not know what to do or have difficulties doing it. The teacher gives a clear instruction of the given task. Skills The students will learn of a (new) fun way to learn vocabulary, they do so by making pictures of the actual words they have to learn. Knowledge The students will expand on their vocabulary with the use of images they have made theirselves. Affective I want my students to learn how to work together more easily and I want their vocabulary to improve/expand. The students will learn how to create a story with words freely. Learning objectives: Student activities: Pre activity + time While activity + time After activity + time The students will pair up and each pair will receive a list of English words.They will then receive the assignment that they will have to make pictures of the words on their list. The pictures may not be taken from the internet so the students will have to hunt down the pictures theirselves. As a while activity, the students will come up with a plan that explains how and when the students will make their pictures. The students will have the rest of the lesson to work on their story. Next to this, every group is required to make 3 extra photo’s of things they would like to know the English Each pair now has to come up with a story using the words they received. This story can go as crazy as they want theirselves, as long as all the words are in there, bold or underlined. Making the pictures will be homework for the next lesson, the teacher should make it extra clear that every group is required to have made all their pictures. definition of. - class Group work - Group work - Group work Work forms + indication duration activity: 15min. Correcting behavior and participation. Anticipated difficulties & possible solutions Students that are not able/willing to write a story on their own. This may be solved by motivating them to write the story by letting them realize that everyone makes mistakes and that they are allowed to do so. Evaluation of the learning effect: Participation, will to learn and skills will be avaluated. If participation is good, students will be more motivated to actually learn the words when they work with them. The upcoming assignment is explained by the teacher. Each group will finish up their story if they have not done so already. After this, each group will visualize their story using their pictures. Next to the pictures, the students may, if they have the time, create extra images using Paint or any other graphic tool on the computer. This may be solved by motivating them to write the story by letting them realize that everyone makes mistakes and that they are allowed to do so. Students that have not made their own pictures. This may be solved by letting students use pictures found on the internet so they won’t have any delays in the task at hand. Evaluation of the learning effect: Participation, will to learn and skills will be avaluated. If participation is good, students will be more motivated to actually learn the words when they work with them. Students will be set up individually so they can make this little vocab test. When the ‘SO’ is finished, the students will have time to read up on eachothers stories. To see what their classmates have made and to answer a few questions afterwards. The questions that the students have to answer will be on a sheet that is handed out by the teacher. These sheets and their stories will be checked by the teacher and eventually given back to the students. The questions asked are: What is the main difference you spot when comparing your work to that of a different group? Having seen the work of other groups, would you have done things differently? Which story did you like most and why? What did you think of this lesson as a whole? (last 3 lessons) Work forms + indication duration activity: - class individual 10-15min. - 20min.
