MEDICAL ASSISTANT The Medical Assistant abides by and actively supports the vision, mission, Core Principles, policies, and procedures of Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care (PPHPC). The role of the Medical Assistant is to perform clinical and administrative tasks in support of the operations of the Clinical Service Team(s). Qualifications: Minimum Education: Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Training Program Preferred Experience: Hospice or Home Health experience. Familiarity with multi-line telephone usage and texting. Medical Terminology; Excel; Internet Research; E-mail; Knowledge of hospice; Knowledge of death and dying experience; Previous healthcare experience. Required Certification/License: Medical Assistant Certification or Registration Current CPR Certification Job Responsibilities: Effectively demonstrates clinical administrative support to Clinical Teams. Answering telephones and greeting patients/families. Able to answers calls from the patient and family in a style that makes them feel at ease. Assesses the information to identify next steps to resolve the needs of the patient and family. Transfers the information to the appropriate person to assure proper follow through is provided to patient/family. Takes medical history. Monitors and communicates patient condition. Instructs patient/family about medication as directed by the physician—how to prepare, administer, etc. Proficient in documenting into patient chart. Enters orders into medical records. Documents and updates communication to care teams, managers and medical records when appropriate. Print care plans and orders written by nurses and fax to facilities. Order medication refills. Tracks census activity and other appropriate logs. Uses critical thinking to prioritize and coordinate clinical staff’s patient visits. Updates daily census and patient visit needs.
