2015 Junior Pennant Competition
Competition matches will be held on Sunday mornings commencing 23 August 2015 with the finals on 22
November, 2015. There will be no play on the following dates – 20 September, 27 September and 1
November, 2015. Please note that matches will be played on the last Sunday of the September/October
school holidays (5 October)
The following age groups will be run in 2015:
- 10/u unisex
- 12/u, 14/u and 16/u boys
- 12/u, 14/u and 16/u girls
- 18/u mixed
Each round, 4 players will compete in a singles rubber (best of 2 sets) and a mixed doubles rubber (8 game
pro set).
All 18/u matches will commence at 9am and must be completed by 1pm. The 18/u competition will be a 5
week competition finishing on the 4 October with each team playing other teams only once. The 18/u
competition will commence on the same date as the 10/u - 16/u competition.
All out of age requests (see condition 3) must be submitted to Tennis Victoria by 5pm Wednesday 8 July 2015
with all complete team entries to be submitted online by 11:59pm Wednesday 22 July, 2015.
Associations are reminded that all venues used must be directly affiliated with Tennis Victoria and must be
located at a club within the Melbourne Metropolitan area, or Geelong.
2015 ENTRY CONDITIONS
1. ELIGIBILITY
The competition is open to Metropolitan & Country players. Affiliated Country Associations are invited to
submit teams to the Tennis Victoria for approval to compete in the Junior Pennant Competition.
Each player must be "a registered participant" of Tennis Victoria and must have played at least four (4)
matches for his or her Club in their Association’s Competition from 1 July 2014 to 30 June 2015. This
excludes Tennis Victoria Pennant matches. Players in the 10/u age group are not required to have played
the minimum of 4 matches.
2. TEAMS
Teams shall comprise of a minimum of four boys or four girls, who shall be nominated in their correct
singles order of merit.
- 10/u unisex competition, teams shall comprise of a minimum of four players (any combination
of boys and girls)
- For the 12/u, 14/u and 16/u competitions, teams shall consist of a minimum of either four
boys, or four girls.
- For the 18/u mixed competition, teams shall consist of a minimum of 2 boys and 2 girls.
Players must play in their singles order of merit for all singles matches. Singles order of merit changes can
be submitted up until Round 5. These must be received in on the appropriate form and approved by
Tennis Victoria. These must be submitted by 5pm, Wednesday 30 September 2015.
3. AGE CATEGORIES
The following age groups will apply for 2015 Junior Pennant Competition.
18 & Under, 16 & Under, 14 & Under, 12 & Under and 10 & Under
Ages are calculated as at midnight 31st December 2015.
Players should play in their own age groups, with only the following exceptions allowed:a) If an Association feels that a player is particularly outstanding in his/her age group and that he/she does
not have sufficient "peers" in the Association to compete in an applicable standard in his/her own age
group, application may be made to the Junior Pennant Competition committee for approval for that player
to compete out of his/her age group. This must be submitted on the Out of Age Request form with all
supporting information supplied. Such an application must be lodged at the Tennis Victoria offices by 5pm
Wednesday 6 July 2015. Tennis Victoria will determine the acceptance or rejection of nominations, and
Associations will be advised of the outcome.
b) Other than the above, the only players able to enter out of their age group are full scholarship National
Academy Melbourne players, and applications must be lodged at the Tennis Victoria offices in writing, by
5pm Wednesday 6 July 2015.
c) Associations may, however, include a player from a lower age group if they do not have a team entered
in that age group (i.e. a 12/u child may play in a 14/u team if the Association does not enter a 12/u team
in the competition).
Associations may nominate up to two teams in each section to be accepted into the Junior Pennant
Competition. Associations may nominate further teams into each age group, however their acceptance
will be subject to availability of placement. Age groups will be graded into sections of a maximum six
teams (i.e. 'A' being the higher standard than 'B', etc). Teams should be nominated in the standard
requested by the Association (e.g. an Association may apply for a 'B' team as their highest team in a
particular age group).
5. COURTS
Venues must be located within the outer Melbourne Metropolitan Zone (except Geelong) and at least two
courts must be provided for each match. Each team must have one permanent Club location and that
courts must be in good condition with adequate clubroom facilities available.
6. SCORESHEETS, FIXTURES & BADGES:
Score sheets will be available to print off Competition Planner. Both teams should print a copy of the score
sheet each week. Fixtures and badges will be available for collection at the Tennis Victoria offices at a
date to be advised.
7. BALLS
Please note the 2015 Team Entry Fee does not include the provision of tennis balls by Tennis Victoria,
except for Finals matches.
Each home team shall supply eight new balls for each home match to allow each rubber to use new balls.
For 10/u matches green 75% compression balls must be supplied.
8. ENTRY FEE
The fee for each team is $85.00 (incl. GST) and the fee must be sent to Tennis Victoria once teams are
submitted.
9. REJECTION OF ENTRIES
Tennis Victoria reserves the right to reject entries because of either standard or draw restrictions (i.e. to
prevent byes in sections).
10.TEAM CONTACTS
Each Association should have a primary Junior Pennant Coordinator and a team manager for each team.
The name and phone number should be provided for each team manager and is to be printed in the
fixture.
11.PLAYING HISTORY
It is recommended that Associations provide extra information as to the playing history of all of the
nominated players to assist with accurate grading. This is to be completed when nominating teams.
