Powers Telecommunications Unit (TM) Interface Landis 8 Gyr Powers, Inc. The Powers Telecommunications Interface Unit (TIU) provides an interface between a Powers Stand-alone Control Unit (SCU) and both public and private phone lines on an intermittent basis. This communications interface will dial a Powers Central Processing Unit (CPU) and/or dumb terminal to remotely report alarms or other user-defined conditions. The Powers Telecommunications Interface Unit will also accept a call from a central Powers CPU or a dumb terminal (manually accessed). Features l The Powers TIU can initiate a call to either a Powers Central Processing Unit (CPU) or Remote Dumb Terminal to remotely report an alarm or other user-defined event which has occurred locally. I; I l l l l l l The Powers TIU can answer calls from a Powers CPU to allow for centralized access of a local Powers SCU network’s database. A central Powers CPU or dumb terminal dialing into a Powers TIU has access to the entire Powers SCU network, not just the Powers SCU In which the Powers TIU is mounted. The Powers TIU allows the owners of multiple buildings to operate each burlding Independently while managing them centrally. The Powers TIU supports rotary dialing. both Touch-Tone and The Powers field panel stores up to sixteen 20-digit phone numbers - to allow the use of varied independent long distance phone companies. The Powers TIU supports user interface functions. both Auto-Dial and local Description The Powers TIU is an optional assembly which can be installed in a Powers Stand-alone Control Unit (SCU) This assembly is used as a (see Figure 1). communications interface to serve as a low-cost alternative to leased phone lines when connecting a Powers Stand-alone Control Unit network to a Powers Central Processing Unit (CPU) and/or a remote termrnal. Order No. 149-044 Figure 1. Powers Telecommunications Interface Unit (TIU). (Modem not shown) The Powers TIU provides the functions necessary for both auto-answer and Auto-Dial communicatrons. Using a Powers TIU, an operator can pre-program the system to communicate on a regular basis and as the result of In addition, when combined with pre-defined events. the custom programming capability of the Powers SCU, calls can be directed to different phone numbers based on time of day (i.e., call the owner’s computer during the day . . . call a remote “manned” dumb terminal at nrght). When an alarm occurs at any unit on the network, the Powers TIU will establish communications by dialing the Powers CPU or dumb terminal. Once the Powers TIU establishes communications, the system annunciates the alarm through the Powers CPU or terminal, as though the Powers CPU or terminal were directly connected at the Powers SCU Network. The Powers TIU can also place calls as necessary to report an alarm to two locations (two alarm devices). The SCU can store up to slxteen 20-digit numbers. allowing It to be used with various Independent long distance companies. Additionally. the Powers TIU supports both Touch-Tone and rotary dialtng to facilitate interface to an existing PBX. Finally, for remote buildings having only one Powers SCU, the Powers TIU can also support a local user interface device for local control and monitoring. When this is done, the Powers SCU’s FE-232 port IS shared between auto-dial and user Interface functions. Prmted m the U.S.A.
