nothing in vain.....
Eureka! The commitment Embassy of Man has made to
build homes for five displaced families in Sri Lanka after
the tsunami is now a reality with 5 new houses neatly
lined up at Kalutara, a town located 35km south of
Colombo. This land area is called 'Mhikatawatte Duwa' and there are about 20 new houses in the near
vicinity. The roadway, water and electricity in the local
area have been provided by the Sri Lankan
Government.
As shown on the plan, the five houses currently under
construction each consists of 2 bedrooms, a
living/dining room, kitchen/pantry, a bathroom and
separate toilet. The five Embassy of Man houses will fulfil
the basic needs of five families left desolate after
disaster struck their country in December 2004.
Embassy of Man prides itself in being part of the
rebuilding of Sri Lanka, albeit on a small scale. Our
involvement made a significant and very positive
difference in the lives of those who would benefit from a
new home. We are extremely eager to introduce those
families to our supporters and hope to keep you
updated about their progress in future newsletters. But
for now, everyone involved in this project will be
celebrating when the houses are finalised at the end of
September 2006. We could not have seen this project
come to fruition without your generous contribution.
Thank you for your support.
Newsflash!
We are very excited about two new hotels that have
joined the Embassy of Man - Express by Holiday Inn
Stratford and Clarion Hotel & Leisure Centre
Gatwick. Both hotels rolled out the programme in
July 2006 and have received a very positive
response from their guests. Well done! Express by
Holiday Inn Croydon will join shortly and we are
looking forward to changing even more lives for the
better!

5 New Homes in Sri Lanka!!!
progress while you rest.....
On 29th May the Express by Holiday inn Burton-uponTrent was host to a whole range of soap stars and
celebrities as they stopped over after the first leg of a
180 mile charity cycle ride from the Coronation Street
set in Manchester to the Queen Victoria pub on the
EastEnders set in London. This magnificent initiative was
organised by the Rhys Daniels Trust. This charity
provides home from home accommodation at hospital
locations for families who have to move to specialised
hospitals after the trauma of having a child diagnosed
with a serious or life threatening illness. Embassy of Man
donated £250 towards sponsoring this worthy cause.
•
Sarah Bell (Operations Manager) and Sallie Ward
(Receptionist) presented the cheque to the various celebrities.
Another worthy cause our staff wanted to support was
one of the local churches, Stapenhill Church Chapel.
Our hotel donated the old dining chairs and the
congregation has already started using them and will
benefit greatly from the donation for the next couple of
years.

With the support of the Children's Safety Education
Foundation, the Embassy of Man has agreed to sponsor a
safety programme for 6-11 year olds at the King William
Street School in Swindon for the coming academic year.
The Children's Safety Education Foundation which is
endorsed by the Wiltshire Ambulance Service works
closely with all the local emergency services. The
programme sponsored by our charity has been designed
with the co-operation of the emergency services, social
services' educationalists and child protection personnel
with the sole aim of preparing those pupils involved to
grow up safely in today's society. The children will use
textbooks covering topics such as basic first aid training,
drug awareness, internet and fire safety, thus providing
teachers with class room aids to deliver effective personal,
social, health and citizen education.
Without donations from our guests, Embassy of Man
would not have been able to make this kind of donation:
one that will help the local residents as well as preparing
our children for future life. In the words of Anne Morrow
Lindbergh: 'One can never pay in gratitude; one can only
pay “in kind” somewhere else in life.'
Our brilliant young golfer
During the part quarter, John Parry has been playing in
major events across Europe. He competed in the British
Amateur Championship at Royal St George's and qualified
for the knock-out stage of the event (top 64) from a field of
300 top amateurs from around the world. He was
eventually beaten by his England colleague, Jamie Moule,
who went on to reach the semi-finals. In the English
Amateur Championship, John reached the last 16 and was
only narrowly beaten by the eventual winner. In attempting
to qualify for the Open Championship, John missed out by
one shot!
However, in the European Amateur Championship in Italy,
John finished a very creditable 13th, despite the fact that
his golf clubs were not available during the practice rounds
and only arrived on the morning of the first round (any
golfer will know the significance). Nonetheless, he
completed his rounds in 6 under par, in the very best of
company, which will give him confidence as he attempts to
qualify for next year's European Tour. Also, John won the
northern region final of the U-21 UK Faldo Series early in
September 2006 and will be in the UK finals at Celtic
Manor in early October.
It's sometimes difficult to remember that John is still only
19; is the youngest member of the 10-man England Elite
Squad; and plays off a handicap of +3.
Finances - For the first quarter of the financial year starting in April, Embassy of Man received circa £5,500 in donations
and bank interest. The Trustees have authorised nominations worth circa £4,200 so far and would like to thank you for partnering
with us. Our joint efforts are paying off and making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Should you wish to make a direct
