Robert Alexander – bio
Robert Alexander is the founder and CEO of RMA Worldwide Chauffeured
Transportation, a global powerhouse in the for-hire transportation industry.
Based in the Washington, DC area, RMA serves discerning clientele in over
600 cities through a worldwide network of partners. The company’s fleet
includes luxury sedans, SUVs, minibuses, limousines and Van Terras.
For more than 25 years, the company has been counted among the world’s
most service-oriented and technologically advanced fleets in the industry,
striving every day to meet or exceed its corporate motto, “A Perfect Ride.
Everywhere. Every time.”
Alexander’s story is one of great American successes. As a young man
recently graduated from college, Alexander started his company with one vehicle in 1988. Working from
his parents’ basement, Alexander used his Saab 900 to shuttle mostly senior citizens and family friends to
shopping and appointments. At the time, the company was called “Errands Plus,” the idea for which
Alexander developed while writing his senior thesis at Washington College on the growth of America’s
service industry.
When Errands Plus became RMA Chauffeured Transportation later that year, it began to grow. The onecar company quickly grew into a fleet of cars driven by chauffeurs personally trained by Alexander with a
focus on extraordinary customer service skills.
Today, RMA’s 200-person staff dispatches hundreds of thousands vehicles each year on six continents.
The company employs state-of-the-art technology to book, track and deliver vehicles to clients. A new
company app, affording even more streamlined service, was built and deployed in 2014.
The company has been awarded “International Operator of the Year” by LCT Magazine (2011);
“National Operator of the Year” by Limousine Digest Magazine (2010/2011); and “Limousine Operator
of the Year” by the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association (2011). It has been ranked “No. 1
Executive Transportation Service” by the Washington Business Journal and consistently voted “Best of
Bethesda” by readers of Bethesda Magazine.
In addition to his chauffeured services, Alexander also operates Orange Taxi, a fleet of wi-fi enabled
vehicles driven by uniformed drivers in the Washington, DC area. He also operates a full-service BP fuel
station near his company headquarters.
Alexander is co-chair of the National Limousine Association’s (NLA) Harold Berkman Memorial Fund.
The fund has raised over $540,000 for a number of charities supporting treatment and research in the fight
against cancer, multiple sclerosis, lupus, diabetes and HIV/AIDS, as well as fighting hunger. This year,
the Berkman fund will give the largest amount of funding to worthy charities in the history of the NLA.
In addition, Alexander is co-chair of the NLA’s PAC fund, and has raised more money and supported
more political candidates than ever before in the association’s history. He is the past secretary of the
NLA, and currently serves as the association’s treasurer.
An avid golfer in his spare time, Alexander lives in Potomac, Maryland, with his wife and their two
children.
Why I want to serve on the board of the NLA, and what my goals will be if re-elected:
It has been a tremendous honor to serve on the board of the NLA, and I greatly hope to have the
opportunity to continue my service. I have found my first term on the NLA board to be both
fulfilling and educational.
Having spent my entire career in the transportation industry, I feel that my involvement at this
level is both a privilege and an obligation. As past NLA secretary and now treasurer, I have been
deeply involved in the financial and administrative affairs of this the association. As an officer, I
feel the board has achieved much in the last few years. I feel that much remains to be done.
If re-elected, I would focus my efforts on raising the largest amount of money to date for our
charitable giving through the Harold Berkman Memorial Fund. So far, we have raised more than
a half a million dollars. I believe our industry can do even more for our communities and for
those in need. I am eager to lead this effort.
In addition, I believe we must have a strong focus on ensuring our political relevance in
Congress. As a co-chair NLA’s PAC fund, I have helped to raise more money and supported
more political candidates than ever before in the association’s history. I will work hard to see
these contributions increase, and with it, our political voice on the many important issues facing
our industry today.
As a business owner who built up his company from a single car, I feel that I have something in
common with all operators, large and small alike. I want to help others grow their businesses,
and would be honored to continue serving on the board of directors. I would work tirelessly to
promote integrity, inclusion and a results-oriented approach that our membership deserves.
I hope I will be afforded the opportunity to once again serve my industry, and this association,
both of which have given me so much over the years. I wish to thank my fellow board members
and the NLA membership for considering my candidacy.
