Moreton Show 2014
The sun shone on the Moreton Show on 6th September with record-breaking crowds
attending the one day show. Approximately 25,000 people from the length and breadth of
the country flocked to the 100-acre site on the grounds of the beautiful Batsford Estate, by
kind permission of the Lord Dulverton.
However, records were not just broken at the gate! With a record number of trade stands
and Horse Showing entries, the Show really is bigger and better than ever. Pigs were shown
for the first time at the Show and were a real crowd puller. A new Horse Showing Ring was
added to the Horse Area, with new classes to include the season's last opportunity to qualify
for the Horse of the Year Show. In addition, some of the country's best riders competed in
the Six Bar Challenge. Further excitement was on hand with the brand new Horse shoe
competition. Local farriers competed tirelessly throughout the day to impress the Judge
with their blacksmithing skills.
The role of young people within the Show and Society was marked with new Young Handler
classes in many sections and a Young Farmers Livestock Judging in both Livestock and Horse.
The standard of showing across the board was very high with some of the best stock in the
country coming forward for judging across the sections.
Live broadcasts took place from Heart FM, Touch FM and BBC Gloucestershire encouraging
visitors from all parts of The Cotswolds.
With new features such as the Family Fun area and the Pig Show paired with the return of
the Bolddog Lings hot from the semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent, the crowds were treated
to a thrilling day of entertainment. Show favourites such as the Terrier Racing, the Grand
Parade of Prize winning Livestock and the National Show of Poll Hereford Cattle returned
proving as popular as ever.
Society Chairman James Coker states, 'This year's show was a massive success. Ticket sales
in our local outlets far exceeded our expectations with the majority of them eclipsing the
numbers sold in 2013. The increase in ticket sales was partly due to the successful
collaboration with Countrywide Stores, which increased the geographical area in which the
tickets were available pre-show. On behalf of the Society, I would like to thank all our
sponsors and the army of volunteers who worked tirelessly not just on Show day, but for
many weeks and months prior to make this year's Moreton Show the best ever".
Plans are already underway for next year's Moreton Show, which takes place on Saturday
5th September.
