acers in the alcohol categories at the
2016 Circle K NHRA Winternationals
were subjected to the big top-end
speeds by Top Alcohol Dragster finalist Don St.
Arnaud and Top Alcohol Funny Car contender
John Lombardo Jr. In addition to setting
track record speeds almost anywhere they
compete, both drivers are the national speed
record holders and dominate the lists of the
all-time-best speed marks in their respective
categories.
Lombardo is a bonafide championship
contender in the NAPA Batteries/
Lucas Oil Chevy Camaro that is
tuned by car owner Rick Jackson
and longtime performance guru Les
John Lombardo Jr.

Don St. Arnaud and
John Lombardo Jr. lay claim to the
fastest runs in the alcohol ranks
Davenport. After Jonnie Lindberg broke the
270-mph barrier last season, Lombardo hit his
stride and began running more than 270 mph
with regularity along with consistent elapsed
times in the 5.4-second range.
St. Arnaud doesn’t compete nearly as
often as Lombardo, but the Canadian A/Fuel
racer’s impact is felt during his appearances
at West Coast events. Evolved from a tune-up
by former crew chief Javid Marusich, St.
Arnaud’s white dragster runs in the high 5.1s
and low 5.2s at
more than 280
mph consistently
with Ty Brown
now calling the
shots. What is
remarkable about
St. Arnaud’s eight
entries on the list
of top-10 all-timefastest runs is
the time frame
during which he
made them. All
of his runs were
made during a time when
rules prohibited A/Fuel
competitors from running
a maximum percentage of
nitromethane greater than
95 percent. In the other two
entries, racers could run up
to 97 percent in 2007 and
96 percent in 2008.
