Holy and merciful God, in your presence we confess our sinfulness,
our shortcomings, and our offenses against you. You alone know
how often we have sinned in wandering from your ways, in wasting
your gifts, in forgetting your love. Have mercy on us, O Lord, for we
are ashamed and sorry for all we have done to displease you.
Forgive our sins, and help us to live in your light and walk in your

Q. What is the Lord’s supper?
A. The Lord’s Supper is a sacrament in which bread and wine are given and received as Christ directed to proclaim his death. Those
who receive the Lord’s supper in the right way share in his body
and blood with all his benefits, not physically but by faith, and
become spiritually stronger and grow in grace.

Prayer for the Skeptic, or Those Struggling with Faith:
Father in heaven, you know the questions of my heart. You know
how I wrestle with the truth of your word, and how I doubt the
resurrection of your son. As I watch this sacrament administered to
those sitting around me, please reveal yourself to me. In your mercy,
please grant me faith to trust in you. Please change my heart by
your Spirit. If you are who you say you are, please grant me life in
the name of Jesus, so that I may believe in him and rest on the
promise of his shed blood and resurrection. Amen.
Prayer for Those Struggling with Sin:
Lord Jesus, grant that I may see in you the fulfillment of all my need,
and may turn from every false satisfaction to feed on you, the true
and living bread. Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so
closely, and run with perseverance the race set before me, looking to
you, the Pioneer and Perfecter of my faith. Amen.

Youth Group
Youth group has begun for 5th grade and up. The first gettogether will be Friday, September 12th from 5:30-8pm at the
church farm. Please bring lawn chairs and games. All food,
drinks, and S’mores will be provided. Come join the fun and bring a friend.

Women Of the Word will begin a new study this Tuesday evening
from 6-7:30 pm. We will be studying Nancy Gutherie’s The Lamb
of God: Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Please join

The Public Reading of Scripture:
The reading of Scripture is a non-negotiable element of public
worship. With the exception of a brief introduction, the text is
read without comment in accordance with the instructions of
the Apostle Paul: “Give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching.” (1 Timothy 4:13) This act of reading the Word without comment emphasizes our
conviction that the written word of God is authoritative and
sufficient.

And the LORD appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah
was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. Then Jonah
prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish, saying, “I called out to the LORD, out of my distress, and he answered me; out
of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice. For you cast
me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood
surrounded me; all your waves and your billows passed over me.
Then I said, ‘I am driven away from your sight; yet I shall again look
upon your holy temple.’ The waters closed in over me to take my
life; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped about my head
at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars
closed upon me forever; yet you brought up my life from the pit,
O LORD my God. When my life was fainting away, I remembered
the LORD, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple. Those
who pay regard to vain idols forsake their hope of steadfast love.
But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I
have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to the LORD!” And the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out upon the dry
