A Message from the Junior Achievement Showcase
Honorary Chairmen
We are delighted to serve as honorary chairmen for this year’s JA
Showcase: Volunteer & Student Recognition. JA has changed quite a
bit since it was first launched in Shreveport 50 years ago as an after
school program for high school youth. Today’s program is taught
during school by volunteers from kindergarten through high school.
It continues to educate our youth about the roles that personal finance
and business play in our economy. JA’s national office has designed
a comprehensive program that progressively exposes students
to vital lessons about citizenship, financial decision making, and
entrepreneurship. It is a proven program which inspires young people
to nurture their dreams of the future while building those personal
traits needed to succeed: confidence, self-reliance, and responsibility.
Plus, it is fun! And because program costs are kept to a minimum, JA
NLA will serve approximately 7,000 students this year. Thank you
for your presence here today. Please help JA thrive by pledging your
support, continuing to volunteer, and recruiting others to participate!

A Message from the Chariman of the Board
Junior Achievement of North Louisiana provides a wonderful
platform to educate the youth of our community about personal
finances, the business cycle and entrepreneurship. Most children
are not exposed to these topics by their parents or through the
traditional education system. JA engages experienced professionals
as volunteers in the classroom to connect real life business with what
they are learning in the classroom and to prepare the workforce and
entrepreneurs of tomorrow. Personally, I find volunteering to teach
JA lessons in economics is a wonderful and enjoyable way to give
back to the community. It is fun and exciting to see children learning
about saving money, how businesses make a profit, and what it
takes to start your own business. Thank your for giving the youth
of today a small portion of your time. Those hours may have made
the difference in some students’ opportunities in life. You just may
have inspired the next Steve Jobs, Bill Gates or Sam Walton. Your
investment this school year is a students’ future reward.

A Message from the Program Manager
Sometimes, not often enough, we reflect upon the
wonderful people who enter our lives. This past school
year has been a humbling experience for me as I look
back and think of the hundreds of business professionals
who took the time out of their busy schedules to make
a difference in a child’s life. More often than not, the
volunteers viewed the experience as a life-changing
event; that is, to actually see and feel the impact
they made, and to have a greater appreciation for our
classroom teachers.
It has been an honor for me to work with each one of
you. Please know how grateful I am.

A Message from the President
Now celebrating 50 years, Junior Achievement of North Louisiana
continues to support economic education for young students in our
community. JA programs connect the dots between what students
have learned in school and how it applies to their lives. Our health as
a nation is largely influenced by the characteristics of the workforce
which impacts productivity, the economy and global competiveness.
A large percent of US companies report major challenges in
recruiting employees with the skills and knowledge they need for
the 21st century; Shreveport-Bossier is actively addressing these
issues by supporting JA programs in the classroom. JA lessons
include critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, ethics,
and teamwork. JA students state they have a better understanding
of the job market and skills necessary to be successful as well as
an increased understanding of budgeting, investing and planning
financially for the future. Students prepared to enter the workforce
are catalysts for new opportunities and a better future for them and
their families. Please support JA in your neighborhood school and in
those schools where poverty continues to limit opportunity.
Thank you for supporting JA programs in our community.
