French Lower Intermediate Framework Overview of the grammar to be introduced per term at Lower Intermediate level French. Depending on the interests and needs of the class the tutor will incorporate the topics/subjects that are interesting and appropriate for the class in combination with the grammar points below.Some variations may occur depending on the general level of the class and the speed the students can cope with. Each session lasts for 2 hours. Term 1 Lower Intermediate sessions 1-10 (September- December) Grammar to be introduced ‘Open’ versus and ‘closed’ questions Difference ‘Quel(le)(s)’ versus ‘Qu’est-ce que’ Passé composé (both with ‘avoir’ and ‘être’) Imparfait Term 2 Lower Intermediate Sessions 11-20 (January – March) Grammar to be introduced the near future construction: ‘aller + infinitif’ recent past: ‘venir de + infinitif’ le futur simple of regular & frequently used irregular verbs le conditionnel of ditto verbs Term 3 Lower Intermediate Sessions 21-30 (April –July) Grammar to be introduced demonstrative pronouns: celui/celle/ceux/celles: complément d’objet direct (me-te-le-la-nous-vous-les) regular adverbs (deduced from adjectives) as well as the frequently used irregular forms like : bien/mieux mal/pis time permitting :reflexive verbs (& its forms in past/future tenses) All grammar will be introduced making extensive use of international news headlines from French newspapers, current affairs and with topics that are appropriate and interesting for the class. Speaking exercises are part of the program. The students must set aside some time for homework.
