Bullers Wood School for Boys Curriculum • To provide an excellent grounding in the core subjects (English, Maths, Science, Computing, Religious Education, Personal Development and Physical Education) as well as the Humanities, a Modern Foreign Language, the Arts and Design and Technology. • We believe that effective communication and mathematical skills in both English and Maths ‘opens doors’, and allows young people to access and achieve success across other subjects. Therefore we will place significant emphasis on the teaching of these skills • A high proportion of curriculum time will be allocated to the study of Science. This is to develop scientific concepts and skills in depth and have the opportunities to problem solve through experimentation • Our Computing curriculum will teach programming Bullers Wood School for Boys Curriculum •Although we are committed to offering an academically based curriculum, we want our students to develop their practical and aesthetic talents. Therefore we include Art, Music, Drama and Technology •We will always design our curriculum around the strengths and needs of each Cohort and will be flexible in our approach to grouping students by aptitude. We recognise that one size does not fit all •We want all our students to achieve success and in order to do this we will put specific interventions in place to ensure that boys can achieve their best and we will seek out and provide opportunities for them to excel in areas where they have potential, a gift or talent •We will offer a full programme of enrichment and extra -curricular activities. Our target in the first year of opening is to have 100% of students participating in at least one extra- curricular activity. Bullers Wood School for Boys ATC • • • • Bringing the current ATC Squadron into the Boys School It will operate out of the school on Mondays & Wednesdays We will work in partnership with the ATC Deliver some extra curricular activities to younger boys e.g. field craft • Boys will be able to join when they are 13 • They will offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze award to boys when they are 14 Bullers Wood School for Boys SEND • Bullers Wood School for Boys will ensure that students with SEN are admitted on an equal basis with others in accordance with our admissions policy • Shared expectation that regardless of their specific needs, SEND students will be offered inclusive teaching that will enable them to make the best possible progress in school and feel that they are a valued member of the wider school community • There will be a range of provision to support students with communication, interaction, cognition and learning difficulties, social, mental and emotional health problems or sensory or physical needs • We will make reasonable adjustments to ensure that students are not disadvantaged • The range of support deployed will be tailored to individual need following thorough assessment by internal or external agencies • Our support will be designed to enable boys with SEND to work towards becoming independent and resilient learners Bullers Wood School for Boys The School Day • Will begin at 7:45am • And finish at 2:20pm • Giving ample time to get involved in Homework clubs, enrichment and extra curricular clubs and activities Bullers Wood School for Boys Site & Planning • Planning application will be submitted in the next few weeks and if successful: • For the first year students will be in a two story, temporary, modular build. • This will be quite well equipped – computers/science equipment etc. • Our catering contractor will be able to provide cold ‘grab bag’ type lunches • Main build will open in September 2018 • Public consultation in the form of an exhibition on Wednesday 29th June from 3:30pm – 8pm in the Main Hall on this site Bullers Wood School for Boys Bullers Wood School for Boys Admissions • Stand alone application made directly to the School • Application forms and Admissions Policy available on www.bwsboys.org • Can apply for a place at Bullers Wood for Boys as well as making 6 choices on Bromley’s Common Application Form – therefore you will hold two offers • The seed point will be the gate on the Bickley Road entrance to St Hughes Playing fields (proposed site) • Application deadline: Friday 31st October 2016 • Provisional Offers: Monday 20th February 2017 Bullers Wood School for Boys Key Dates • Wednesday 29th June 2016 3:30pm – 8pm – Site & Planning Exhibition • Saturday 17th September 2016 9:30am – 12:30pm – Open Morning • Thursday 6th October 2016 - Planning Application Decision • Application deadline Friday 31st October 2016 • Provisional offer dates Monday 20th February 2017 Bullers Wood School for Boys Section 10 Consultation • We will be running this again • It is a 7 week consultation process where we ask everyone to complete a questionnaire on our website • You will be asked if you agree to the Secretary of State for Education entering into a funding agreement with us. • You will be asked about our Admissions Policy, site and other matters • We have to record objections and support for the School in a report that is submitted to the Secretary of State for Education • Saying that you want the school will make a big difference as she has to prove to the Government that this school is needed Bullers Wood School for Boys Bullers Wood School for Boys
