Friday, April 3
Please remember that our spring membership meeting takes place Good Friday
this Thursday at 7:30 here at the school. Also remember that the
meeting is open to all members; it’s a great way to stay in touch Monday, April 6
with what is happening at the school as well as the operation of the
Easter Monday

Windows
Over the March Break, new windows were
installed in three classrooms. They replaced
windows that had been in use for over 35
years. This is part of our ongoing campaign to
replace all the old windows and part of the
commitment to a well-maintained educational
facility.
Heart and Stroke
Any outstanding Heart and Stroke envelopes
may be turned in this week; they should be in
the office no later than Wednesday.

Orders were due back into the office today
but we will continue to accept orders until

Report Card Envelopes
Please return report card envelopes to the
school this week.
We have surpassed our fundraising goal! Our
students have raised just over $2400.00 to
date. Taking part in the Heart and Stroke
fundraiser also benefits our school as we use
the points earned to order sports equipment.
Many thanks to all of those who contributed
to the Grade 8 hot chocolate fundraiser at
the Watford arena during school skating.

Pizza Day is this Wednesday, March 25.
Reading Partners
Our annual Reading Partners programme winds
up this Wednesday morning. It remains a great
way to bring students from different grades
together. It also serves to encourage reading;
please continue the practice at home.
Hot Chocolate Sales This Thursday, March 26 our grade 8 students
will be providing refreshments at the Spring
Membership Meeting, donations will go
towards the grade 8 grad fund. This Friday,
March 27 we will be having our usual amazing
bake sale before morning recess for all
grades.

Brown Day! Tuesday, March 24 is “Brown Day” in
the JK classroom. The SK students can wear
brown on Wednesday, March 25.
Fun with Seuss! Both classes will enjoy some Dr.
Seuss books and activities this week. We will also
use this week to celebrate our accomplishments
in reading. Congratulations go out to our top
readers: Elianne (JK) and Carson (SK). Mrs.
Robinson will provide hotdogs on Thursday (JK)
and Friday (SK) as a special treat for our “Book
Party”.
SK Friday: This Friday (27th) is a SK day.
Happy Birthday! We want to wish Colten a very
happy 5th birthday on March 26.

It was a fun way to reinforce math concepts.
Poetry Recitation: Be sure to practice your
poem/scripture passage this week. Students
will be given the opportunity to do some
practice runs before the “real thing” on

Reading: In our reading unit we continue to
read Biographies and learn the characteristics
of a recount (a retelling of events in order).
Please continue working on poem

Math: We are continuing with our multiplying
and dividing decimals units. There will be a lot
of practice with long division and
multiplication. If homework comes home,
please ensure your child does not use a
calculator! Thank you.
Socials: We have wrapped up our conservation
of energy and are beginning an investigation
into the ancient farming communities of Egypt
and China. We will be reflecting and learning
from the multitude of lessons we can learn
from these ancient communities. It should be
an exciting adventure!
Food works continues this week!
Music: Please remember that students have 20
minutes of recorder practice due each Friday.
Their record sheets require a parent's
signature.

Bible: We continue our look at Jesus’ early
ministry. Writing assignment due on Friday.
Memory Work: Matthew 5: 9,10. Please know for

Literature: Students are working in small groups
for the next two weeks reading novels about
survival as a companion study to Island of the
Blue Dolphins. They are expected to complete a
“package” of information, part of which is group
work, the rest is individual. Some of the work
will be done at home.
Things to Know: TTK # 10 is due for completion
on Wednesday.
Current Events: Grade five students are asked to
bring in a current events article this week
Tuesday. They will summarize and briefly explain
the article to the class. We are also introducing a
new reading this week. Assignment is due on
Thursday.
Spelling: Lesson 23 quiz and exercises for Friday.
Vocabulary: There will be another quiz on
selected word wall words this Thursday.
Writing: There will be a series of ongoing writing
assignments this term. Some of this is in
p r e p a r a t i o n f o r t h e F i n e A r t s Wr i t i n g
Competition. We will begin with another story
this week.
Speech: Students will be practicing speech
strategies and techniques. A schedule for
presenting their speech to the class will be set
this week.

Memory Work: There will be NO memory work tomorrow. Next Tuesday's memory work comes from
Ephesians 3:17-19
Math: Our unit test for our algebra unit is slated to take place Thursday, April 2nd.
Science: Our hazard product symbols quiz will take place this Friday, March 27th. Our chemistry unit test
will take place next Tuesday, March 31st. Speeches: Congratulations to all in grade 7 & 8 on their excellent speeches. Your hard work and
preparation is greatly appreciated and you should be proud of your efforts. For those interested in hearing
two of these excellent speeches, you'll have to attend our Time for Talents on Thursday, April 9th. Geography: We will have a quiz on our grasslands unit this Thursday, March 26th.
Literature: We will have our second quiz on chapters 6-11 of the Giver this Friday, March 27th. Our first
Vocab quiz will take place this Wednesday, March 25.
Grade 8 French: This Friday our quiz will be on comprendre and connaître. Keep in mind that these verbs
may very well show up on our exam!

BASKETBALL: While basketball season is over, we're very
thankful to Mr. Bill Hoogland for volunteering to make this a
possibility for our students. Students were able to build on
their understanding and enjoyment of the game, which was
a real win-win.
HOCKEY: Congratulations to our students who participated
at the BDCS Hockey Tournament on Wednesday, March 11th.
Despite a tough start to the day, our Warriors got stronger
as the day went on narrowly losing to the top-seeded team
in the semifinal. Great job, Warriors! Many thanks to our
drivers for the day and a special thanks to our coaches Doug
Boelens, Craig Callister, and John Zekveld who willingly
gave of their time for another memorable hockey season.
