DIVINE WORSHIP
The Lord's Day
April 2, 2017
Special Music
The worship of Almighty God is man’s highest calling. In John 4, God tells us that He is actively seeking those who
will worship Him in spirit and truth. Thus, we must prepare to love God corporately with all of our heart, soul, mind
and strength in the worship service. Take a moment now to reflect on the glory and wonder of God. Pray and ask
God to assist the minister in the leading of worship and the preaching of the Word and to open your heart to receive the
truth that you will be enabled to commune most deeply with your Savior.

DEPARTING TO SERVE THE LORD
*Hymn of Response
Psalm 8: 1-9
People: Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained
strength, because of Your enemies, that You may silence the enemy
and the avenger.
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and
the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful
of him, and the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him
a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and
honor.
People: You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen-- even the
beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea that
pass through the paths of the seas.

Insight Into Worship
Why use the Apostles’ Creed in worship?
The Christian Church has used creeds (Apostles’, Nicene and others) at least as far back
as the second century as tools for worshipping God. Thus we are careful not to simply
recite a creed, but rather to see them as conduits to worship, briefly summarizing what
we believe about God and driving us to praise. The Bible contains about 800,000
words and the Apostles’ Creed, about one hundred. These succinct truths contained in
the Apostles’ Creed ought to amaze us and bring great joy. As we repeat these words
in worship, our hearts should fly up in adoration to our loving Lord. Consider how
wonderful these truths are: God is our Father! Or the miracle of Jesus being “born of
a virgin.” Or that our sins can be and are forgiven in Christ. How can we rehearse them
and not rejoice in our God? Keep in mind that though they are not Scripture, they are
derived from the Bible. As they rest upon the solid foundation of the Bible and have
stood for nearly two millennia, we gladly use them in our worship to God.

Evening Worship
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen, Amen.
Pastor Thomas will take us back to the subject of Spiritual Disciplines in this
evening’s service and specifically to “The Discipline of Worship.” How important is
worship in your life? And how hard do we work to get the most out of worship?
And more importantly, what does God get out of our worship? Join us tonight as we
seek to please our great God in worship.
