Taxiway A Completion, Austin–Bergstrom International Airport Austin, Texas The project provides for the completion of the north and south sections of Taxiway A which is currently a partial, parallel taxiway to Runway 17L-35R. Design includes the recently added “Taxiway Design Group” criteria to FAA AC 150/5300-13, “Airport Design”, for an increased pavement safety margin during aircraft turning movements. The work will include asphalt shoulders, extensions of the taxiway’s centerline and edge light circuits, extensions to the area storm drain system, and addressing extraneous aircraft pavement at the taxiway tie-ins at both ends of the runway. Client: City of Austin Completed: Ongoing Cost: $3 million (approximate) Unique Problems/Solutions Project Size: Runway extensions: 1100’ x 75’ and 1625’ x 75’ Construction of the entire project under a proposed single fiscal year grant will necessitate the use of both federal entitlement and discretionary funds. The bid documents will address the north end of the taxiway as a base bid and the south end of the taxiway as an additive. This will provide the City of Austin with the maximum flexibility for award of the project. Airfield Pavements Airfield Lighting Airfield pavements currently have 12.5’ wide asphalt shoulders. Alternates will be included to construct either 12.5-feet wide asphalt shoulder per the existing configuration or 35-feet wide asphalt shoulder in compliance with the applicable taxiway design group criteria.
