Cool Tools Calibrated Bezel Template Instructions
This document is a general instruction on how to use our bezel templates. To learn more about these

BezelTemplate
• Matchyourstonetothestonesize(left).Thisholewillbeusedforthefirstcutwhichis
alsotheinsideseatforyourgemstone.
• Chooseyourdesiredbezelwallthickness(right).Thiscutwillbetheoutsidewallofthe
bezel.

1. Placeyourgemstoneonyourworksurface.Withtheculetsideup,determinethedepthofthebezel
required.Stackourrollingframesuntiltheyarethesameheightofthegemstone.Usethesnakeroller
toverify.Ifthesnakerollertouchesthestone,addmorerollingframes.
2. Placealumpoffreshmetalclayontheworksurface.Usingthesnakeroller,pressdownontotheclay
creatingpancake.

3. Choosethetemplatethatmatchesyourgemstoneinbothsizeandshape.
4. Usingthestonesizeofthetemplate,placethetemplateontheslabofclay,pressdownslightly.Cut
andremovetheclayfromthetemplate.Itisimportanttoholdtheultraclaypickatananglethat
roughlymatchestheangleoftheculet.Thiswillkeepthegemstonefromfallingthroughthebackof
thebezel.

5. Refinetheangleandremoveanyadditionalexcessclay.
6. Placeyourgemstoneintotheopening.

7. Usingthesnakerollerpressdownonthegemstonetoseatitintotheclay.Itisagoodideatobrushthe
claywithwateratthispointtohelptheclaystaymoist.Thispreventspossiblecrackingofthemetal
clay.
8. Removetherollingframes.Usingthetemplate,choosethewallthicknessyoudesireforthespecific
gemstoneyouareusing.Centerthetemplatearoundthestoneandpressdownslightly.

9. Holdingthetemplatefirmlyontheclay,cuttheoutsidebezelwallwithyourclaypick.Makethiscut,
straightupanddownorperpendicular.
10. Removetheexcessclay.
