Dear readers,
What began in 1962 inside a grain mill in Nordrach is today a global company
with locations in all the biggest industrial regions of the world. This year,
JUNKER Group marks its 50th anniversary. In 2012, JUNKER is doing great –
close to 1,200 employees, over 200 million Euro in annual sales and premises
totaling 57,000 m². In addition, JUNKER has a high equity ratio. For over 20
years now, there has been no withdrawal of capital. The capital earned stays
with the company and is used to fuel the company's constant growth.
Back in the 60’s when my company was first established, it was already clear
to me that the national market was too small for our grinding machines. So
it wasn’t long before the first machines began to be shipped abroad. We’ve
always been very internationally oriented and worked to develop new markets. With the addition of our newest offices in Brazil and Russia, JUNKER now
has its own locations in all the geographically important markets world-wide.
From these locations, our sales and service network reaches across the globe.
Having vision is an important factor for a company’s success. We recognized
early on that the cutting tool industry would be practically saturated by the
70’s and 80’s. In response, we decided to concentrate more and more on
automotive manufacture and supply. We also took action early on with regard
to spreading out to new locations. The acquisition of parts of the former TOS
Group (machine tool manufacturer) in the Czech Republic in 1992, known
today as Erwin Junker Grinding Technology, was another step in the right
direction for us. Today, we manufacture absolutely top quality grinding machines in the Czech Republic.
In the grinding industry, JUNKER stands for innovation and the constant push
for even better technological solutions. Our grinding machines are productive, flexible and economical. With over 150 machine concepts, our grinding
machines find applications in a wide range of areas – from automotive manufacture and supply to tooling, pump manufacture and renewable energy
systems. Our innovative leadership is backed by over 80 patents. QUICKPOINT
grinding technology, JUPITER series centerless cylindrical grinding machines
and, more recently, the JUCENTER and the JUSTAR grinding center are excellent examples.

In 2012, the JUNKER Group continues to experience international growth. With the
opening of a new location in Russia, JUNKER once again demonstrates on-site
presence in one of the most attractive markets in the world.
With our new location in Yaroslavl, Russia, JUNKER has successfully pushed its international presence even further.
The recently opened sales and service location will serve
to strengthen the comprehensive service we offer Russian
clients and secure successful, long-lasting business ties in
the region. The new JUNKER branch office is located in the
industrial city of Yaroslavl in central Russia, which has a population of about 600,000 and sits on the Volga River, about 280
kilometers northeast of Moscow.

At JUNKER, we’re convinced that industrial modernization is critical if Russia is to take part in the economic upturn and gain long-term success as an industrial region.
Federal assistance plays a major role in this. If the Russian
government grants government aid for new investments and promotes promising projects and companies,
then that would allow for even more innovative projects
to sprout in the automotive and tooling industries, as
well as in the energy sector.

Heading up the new location in Yaroslavl is Milan Voříšek,
who has been with JUNKER for many years and was, until
now, the regional sales manager for eastern Europe. He
and his team will do everything possible to satisfy the
growing demand for JUNKER machines. The staff will
also be there to provide top-notch service to existing
and potential customers and to represent the company
in the region. Milan Voříšek knows from experience. The
only way to succeed in Russia is by intensive and, more

Breakthrough to the Future
The JUNKER Group has been active on the Russian market for
decades (although, without our own local branch until now.)
We sold our first machine to Russia back in the 70’s. Today, a
growing number of businesses, particularly in the automotive
manufacturing and supply industry, as well as the tooling
sector, are placing their trust in JUNKER technology. JUNKER
has also long had a presence at Russian tradeshows. The
METALLOOBRABOTKA exhibition that took place this May, for
example, has become a tradition for us.
And JUNKER has gained much trust in this way, as evidenced
by years of collaboration with local partners. The cities that
have been particularly important to us in this regard are
Moscow, Yaroslavl, Saint Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Samara Toliatti and Kazan. And although Russia and
Germany still have partly differing conceptions of standards,
working methods and rules, these conceptions are becoming
more and more similar. Through the increased presence of
JUNKER in the region, Russian partners can now work even
more closely with our company, which should facilitate the
establishment of German standards in Russia. This is one
advantage which should benefit both the German side and
the Russian side and which, in addition to providing excellent
product quality, should also contribute to success on the vast
Russian market.

Lean Selection speed for

Tool Blank Manufacture with the Lean Selection speed
A German manufacturer of precision tools grinds carbide tool blanks on
a Lean Selection speed using the QUICKPOINT grinding method. With
infeed rates of 2 or even 2.5 mm and high-speed grinding, this machine
grinds external contours on tools; from shaft to cutting end in a single
clamping set-up with excellent surface quality and concentricity. The
customer found the Lean Selection speed particularly appealing for its
high performance, which, according to the company director, “is 6-8
times higher as compared with other OD grinding machines.”

New – Platform 1S
Now, JUNKER's smallest platform yet offers more flexibility for compact small parts of up to 150 mm in length.
The new 1S platform features a z-axis that is designed as
a compound slide rest, resulting in significant advantages for special applications. For example, when grinding
inner threads on steering nuts, the processing and auxiliary times can be drastically reduced. This is supported
by an optionally available system for simultaneous loading and unloading during grinding. In addition, OD's
and ID’s can be simultaneously ground on a part.
Textile Roller Manufacture with the EJ 31
The Chinese textile industry also uses JUNKER grinding
technology. An EJ 31 CNC angled plunge cut OD grinding
machine is used to grind the shaft ends on textile rollers.
The customer was won over by the advantages of the
EJ 31 with its high-precision chuck clamping, resulting in
excellent concentricity. The Chinese company wants to
establish a lasting presence at the head of the market. So
it’s choosing to go with cutting-edge grinding technology from the Black Forest. In addition, a fully automated
loading/unloading system assures low labor costs and
economical production.
Grinding small crankshafts with the JUCENTER
The JUCENTER 6L can grind small crankshaft, that are
used for example in chain saws, lawn mowers, motor
cycles, compressors and other equipment. Main and
pin bearings as well as shanks are ground on two
stations. The complete process in one machine with the
integrated measuring system is capable of achieving very
high qualities and short cycle times. Additionally the
JUCENTER 6L is extremely economical due to the complete grinding process and convinces with its high
efficiency.

The Intention
Based on small batch sizes, high raw material costs and a growing variety
of part types, we decided to develop a grinding center that packages
the demand for more flexible manufacture in one high performance
grinding machine. The result was the JUSTAR. The machine was first
unveiled at the GrindTec in Augsburg, Germany, early this year and was
met with great interest.
The Grinding Technology
The JUSTAR combines several different grinding methods, including the
QUICKPOINT method. Its grinding wheel changer lets this machine grind
nearly any given tool shape in a single clamping set-up. And it can be
used to grind parts directly from bar stock. The high-performance
spindle allows for extremely fast cutting speeds. And thanks to the
gauging system with automatic dimensional correction, the machine
only produces good parts. A particularly innovative feature of the
JUSTAR is its coolant nozzle system, not available anywhere else in the
world: A handling robot integrated in the machine adjusts the coolant
nozzles fully automatically during grinding.

The JUSTAR features Siemens SINUMERIK 840 D controls. In combination
with the newly developed and expanded JUWOP II programming system, it achieves excellent results with regards to performance, ease of
use and flexibility.
