A blasting good year for Thyborøn Trawldoor
After we have had the pleasure of several North Atlantic low pressure
areas over the past month in northwestern Denmark, it’s slowly getting quieter for the Christmas season. This doesn’t apply to Thyboron
Trawldoor though.
More and larger orders during Northern Europe’s largest fishing fair,
DanFish, in Aalborg and a general increase in orders result in 370 sets of
trawl doors by the end of 2015. Close to 1,800 tons of processed steel,
which makes it look like another record-breaking year in a series of many.
Our expectations for 2016, here at Thyborøn Trawldoor, are towering. Next year, we present several innovative products and technical
novelties, which will open up opportunities for offering trawldoors to
new expansive markets worldwide.
With the invitation to visit our new web page “www.trawldoor.dk” and to
join us on our facebook page “thyboron-trawldoor.dk”, we wish you a
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Danish consumption trawler is fishing more effectively than ever before
The Danish trawler L153 Malle, with skipper Tommy Bach at the helm, is
extremely pleased with his new Thyboron trawldoors.
After a move to the new Type 15 VF specially designed “flying doors”, the
vessel has increased its catches.
As a visible proof of this, L 153 Malle just landed 17.4 tonnes of plaice and
cod, after fishing for only three days. The catch sold for a price of 350,000
danish crowns.
Up until autumn Malle fished with 7 m² trawldoors, which were just replaced by a set of 9 m²
Type 15 VF. In the last couple of weeks the vessel
was fishing for cod and plaice, just north and west
of Hirtshals. They struggled with bad weather in the
area, but now entered a quieter period.
With the change to the specially designed “floating” Type 15 VF pelagic trawldoors from Thyborøn
Trawldoors, skipper Tommy Bach has achieved
several advantages over the conventional trawldoors
he used before. Now the Jutland trawler can both,
fish with “flying doors” and if necessary use them as
traditional bottomdoors. The doors have a Hardox
wearkeel to ensure a longer life.
As for the fuel-saving effect of the new doors,
there are clear advantages. But the skipper of
Malle has instead chosen to increase the towing
speed so that, instead of saving fuel, he reduced
the time at sea. So all in all a very happy fisherman
who can highly recommend the “flying doors”
from Thyborøn.

Danish trawl doors for the
Russian fleet
Masterlova, owned by Irina Kichigina, is an association of leading European manufacturers of
fishing equipment and tackle, which Thyboron
Trawldoor is a part of. They recently sent 5
more pairs of the new specially designed Type
15 VF trawldoors to the Russian Fishery Group
in Vladivostok, Russia’s largest Pacific port .
The deliveries from Thyboron Trawldoor
are followed up with several deliveries, just
before Christmas, to the Kamchatka province
and Sakhalin, Russia’s largest island in the
Okhotsk sea.
Oceanrybflot vessels in Petropavlosk - Kamchatsky, all equipped with Thyborøn Type 14 VF trawl doors.
South African company “Irvin & Johnson” has success
with Danish trawldoors
One of South Africa’s largest fishing companies, Irvin & Johnson in Cape
Town, currently invests in the replacement of an aging trawler fleet.
Their latest purchase of the approximately 45-meter trawler CTT Ferox,
brings the total number of trawlers in the company up to twelve.
Here is a quote from skipper Roberto from CTT Ferox, which was delivered
by a spanish shipyard in August this year, after the first few trips: »its really
appreciated, this is my third trip now and the last 2 were very good trips as
we actually out fished the other F-Class vessels where as they were getting
much smaller fish than us.«
So the expectations were fully met with the choice of 7.5 m² Type 14 VF
semi-pelagic Thyboron trawldoors.
American fishermen took a trip across “the pond”
It was a very positive and very constructive meeting with the American
fishermen in Thyboron.
The American Glacier Fish Compagni, from Seattle in the northwestern
part of the United States, took the trip across the Atlantic early in December, to pay Thyboron Trawldoor a visit.
The trip, which included a visit to the trawldoor factory in Thyboron and a
visit to the Sintef test tank in Hirtshals, was a complete success.
Glacier Fish Compagni from Seattle recieved five sets of Type 15 VF trawldoors for their pelagic vessels Rebecca Irene, Unimak, Northern Glacier,
Arica and the Pacific Glacier, in december 2015.
Many contacts at DanFish International 2015 in Aalborg
Great optimism and positivity was prevalent among both exhibitors and
visitors at the stand of Thyboron Trawldoors at the DanFish International 2015 exhibition in Aalborg Congress and Culture Center (AKKC).
This atmosphere resulted in three successful exhibition days for the
expanding Danish trawl door producer. Jan Bundgaard, sales manager
at Thyboron Trawldoor, also confirms the success. He says the company
got orders from a wide range of countries, like Morocco, Netherlands,
Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Greenland, Ireland and many others, as well
as several inquiries from new customers.
The exhibition was a huge success with 13,991 visitors from more than
40 countries. Jan Bundgård also thanks for the distinguished attendance
and the fantastic outcome of this year’s DanFish International He is
already looking forward to the next DanFish exhibition, which will take
place from October 11th to 13th 2017 in Aalborg.
