KIDS FOR KIDS FACTSHEET
1. Many of our schools find partnering with World Vision helps when introducing their students to
the concept of global citizenship. We aim to help educators engage their students with the
issues faced by children and families in the developing world. Our hope is that students will
understand the causes and consequences of global poverty, leading to compassion for others
and a desire to take appropriate action. World Vision provides educational resources and
experiences that bring the world to you. You can find our educational resources here:
www,worldvision.org.nz/educationshop.
2. The CD’s that accompany this book are studio produced. One is a Vocal Tutorial Tack CD and
the other is a Piano Backing Track CD. Due to copyright restrictions and the resulting costs, we
are unfortunately unable to provide the music score. On the Tutorial CD is a PDF of the lyrics as
well as condensed version of the lyrics that you can print out for your choir to take home with
them. These documents are also available online at www.kidsforkids.org.nz There is a template
letter that you can use to inform parents about Kids for Kids and the show logistics.
3. Posters for the show will be sent out to you about six weeks before the concert.
4. Tickets will go on sale one month before the concert. We will update you when the posters are
sent out, as well as update our website with ticketing details once bookings open. Most shows
are normally fully booked, so we recommend that parents pre-book their tickets to avoid
disappointment.
Kids for Kids tries to keep the ticket price as low as it can to allow as many families as possible
to see their children perform. The price of the ticket contributes to covering the cost of staging
the concert. Each school will receive four complimentary tickets, which includes the ticket
required for the choir teacher. These will be handed out during a teachers meeting held during
the
rehearsal
on
the
show
day.
5. Please contact us if you find that your estimated choir number has changed significantly once
enrolment is underway.
6. There is a teachers meeting held during the rehearsal on the show day to answer any questions
and make you comfortable with the event and venue. For any questions you may have
beforehand please contact us at [email protected].
7. Rehearsal – There is only one rehearsal before the show. It is held on the morning of the show
day at the venue from 9:00am – 12:30pm. There will be a short break during rehearsal for
morning tea, so please bring drinks/snacks for your choir.
We have no preference as to whether students wear school uniforms or not at the rehearsal.
This is for each school to decide. Most students will arrive as a group from school and return to
school for the afternoon, thus tend to wear uniforms.
8. Concert – Children are requested to be at the venue and backstage at 6:45pm. We will start
leading the students on stage roughly around 7:10pm. The concert runs from 7:30pm to 9:30pm
and includes a 20 minute interval.
Children should wear bright-coloured clothing on the night. The more colourful and fun the
better! No jackets or jerseys are to be worn on stage as it can become very warm performing
under the lights. Parents are welcome to photograph the show. Please note that due to
copyright restrictions, we regret that it is no longer possible to allow the use of video cameras at
our concerts. Please advise your parents.
9. Photographic Consent – World Vision will be taking photographic images (moving or stills) of
students at Kids for Kids for general promotional purposes. A school’s participation will
constitute student and parental consent to this end. We do request schools to let parents know
about this arrangement.

SOLOISTS – FAQ’S
Q:
WHO ARE SOLOISTS?
Every year we include songs in our show that offer students with an
outstanding musical talent to be showcased. We call these students ‘soloists’.
Q:
HOW MANY SOLOISTS CAN I PUT FORWARD?
This year we invite you to select TWO singers, ONE rapper, and ONE ukulele
player to attend auditions – that’s FOUR students in total.
Q:
IF I DON’T HAVE A RAPPER OR UKULELE PLAYER, CAN I ADD IN
EXTRA SINGERS?
Sadly no. We have restrictions on the number of soloists we can accept from
each school because of the limited amount of time we have to run auditions
on your show day. If you send more than two singers to singing auditions, our
Musical Directors will ask you to choose only two.
NOTE: Singers and rappers are auditioned in different locations at the same
time. For this reason, please make sure your rapper is not one of your
chosen singers!
Q:
A:
HOW DO YOU CHOOSE SOLOISTS?
Our Musical Directors and Hosts will audition them very quickly backstage
during the morning tea break of your rehearsal. Because of the speed of our
audition process, some students can leave disappointed that they didn’t get
to sing an entire song. The reality is, with only 25 minutes to audition
sometimes more than 30 students, they may only get to sing four lines from
their least favourite song! Please tell your students this so they are prepared.
NOTE: We do not audition ukulele players, as we trust you to choose the
best student for the role. We will get them together for a jam at morning tea.
Please ensure your ukulele player brings their uke to rehearsal
Q:
DO ALL AUDITIONING SOLOISTS GET A PART?
Yes! While we only have six singing parts and one rapping part, those
auditioning singers/rappers who are not cast in a main soloist part will be
invited to join our Hosts at the front of the stage in a group to sing the choir
part for I SEE RED. This opportunity is 100% optional, and offers students a
chance to sing and boogie on stage like a rock star!
Q:
WHAT SONGS SHOULD MY SOLOISTS KNOW?
Your two singers should learn the soloist parts for all of the following songs:
SOMETHING GOOD, LANGUAGE, LOVE IN A FOWL HOUSE (‘The
Chicks’ part), and MAKE YOU MINE. The more songs they learn well, the
better their chances are for being picked.
Your one rapper should learn the rap parts in HOW BIZARRE.
Your one ukulele player should learn the chords for the UKULELE MEDLEY
2016.

TUTORIAL TRACKS
HOW TO DOWNLOAD THE TRACKS
In the digital age we no longer need to use CD’s!
Head to www.kidsforkids.org.nz/downloads. Use the following
code to get access to the tracks and download them to your
computer.
ACCESS CODE:
See the hardcopy sent to you for this.
A SUPER IMPORTANT NOTE!
Upon entering the access code, you will be presented with three
different folders with tracks in them.
Please only download the tracks associated with the host for your
specific show, ie: Jackie Clarke, Nathan King, or the combo show
that they host together.
Your introductory letter will tell you who is hosting your show. If
you are unsure, please contact us.
HOW TO USE THE TRACKS
Use the Vocal Tutorial Tracks to teach the song melodies to your
choir by ear. We have recorded students singing the parts we want
your choir to sing. Due to copyright restrictions we are unable to
provide sheet music resources.
Use the Piano Backing Tracks CD when your choir knows them
well enough to sing them unprompted.
We encourage you to give copies of the soloist songs to your
soloists so they can rehearse in their own time.

Celeste (ONLY SUNG WHEN JACKIE CLARKE IS A HOST)
Both: Oo oo oo
Jackie:
I was sitting in a field of pine trees
Coaxing the words from the earth and the dirt and
Sought a muse but the words just wouldn’t come
Both: It’s been a while since I saw you at New Year
Holding your breath, your eyes upon the second hand
The way you looked is still vivid to me
CHORUS
You’re something out of a dream
Messing with my head
And I’ve been looking for you
Are ya hiding?
Cos I like the way you’re calling to me
Your spell upon me
You’re something out of a dream
And I like it, though I fight it
Jackie:
It took a while for the medicine to sink in
Blow out the fog and remove all the cobwebs
Now I’m clear I can hear myself think straight
Both: I’m on the road with my clothes in a rucksack
Over my shoulder following the whispers
People ask me where I’m going in such haste
And I say
Choir:
My girl’s a switchblade
A bright light on the cityscape
Wherever she goes I’m gonna chase

I Love My Feet
Choir
My eyes are too small and my mouth’s too big
And my ears are a different size
My elbows are funny, got an outsize tummy
And my knees wouldn’t win a prize
My hands leave something to be desired
Though they do just what’s required
But there’s a part of my body that can’t be beat
I love my feet
CHORUS
I love my feet
I love my feet
Well there’s a part of my body that’s real neat
I love my feet
Host
Some people think
There must be something wrong with my mind as well
But I stop to despair
When people just don’t care at all about themselves
Like I cough so my throat’s not much use
Cough!
And my lungs are subjected to a lot of abuse
Choir: Cough!
Choir & Host
But there’s a part of my body that can’t be beat
I love my feet
CHORUS
INSTRUMENTAL
BRIDGE
Choir & Host
You know when ten toes get together
Well they’re stuck together forever
Pinkies and big ones and those in the middle
If you haven’t got no thumbs
Well they’re there to twiddle
CHORUS x2
Well there’s a part of my body that’s real neat
I love my (stomp-stomp) feet!

HANDY TIPS FOR UKULELE
PLAYERS
Hey uke strummers!
Here are some helpful things to remember as
you get ready for your show day.
There might be some new chords you need to
learn for the first time. Practice them slowly at
first so your fingers can learn where they need
to go. Do that, and you’ll be playing them like a
speedy ukulele ninja in no time!
There’s no worries if you can’t copy exactly
what you hear on the CD. Just do your best,
strum along with a big smile, and have fun!
We’ll have these pages printed out BIG for you
to use on stage, but learn them by heart if you
can. If you lose your place in the song, just
have a laugh and join in again when you can.
Remember to bring your uke with you to
the rehearsal. We will get all the players
together for a practice during morning tea
break on rehearsal day.
Good luck, and we’ll see you soon!
