ДЕНЬ БАТЬКА
June 19th
Every father
should
remember
that one day
his son will
follow HIS
EXAMPLE
Happy
instead
of
HIS
ADVICE.
МНОГАЯ ЛІТА!
We wish all our fathers, grandfathers,
and spiritual fathers a Happy Father’s
Day and may they have a blessed
Sunday! May we also remember all
those fathers who hold a special spot
in our hearts and our memories.
Father’s Day Prayer
Lord, please bless our fathers, these
men who mean so much to us, who are
greatly responsible for who we are and
who we are becoming. Bless them for
having the courage to do what’s
necessary to keep us out of trouble, for
making us do the right thing, for helping
us build our character, even when it
makes us angry; and bless them for
pushing us to do our best, even when
they just wanted to love us. Bless our
fathers for being our protectors, for
leading us through stormy times to
safety, for making us believe that
everything will be all right and for making
it so. Bless our fathers for quietly making
a living to provide for those they love
most, for giving us food, clothing, shelter
and other necessary and not so
necessary material things, for unselfishly
investing time and money in us that they
could have spent on themselves. Bless
our fathers, Lord, for saving some
energy for fun, for leading us on
adventures
to explore the outer reaches of
ourselves, for making us laugh, for being
our playmates and our friends. Bless
them for being our secure foundation,
our rock, for holding on tight to us...until
it’s time to let us go. Lord, bless these
men we look up to, our role models, our
heroes, our fathers. Amen.
“My son, give me your
heart, and let your eyes
observe my ways”
Proverbs 23:26
Feast of the Holy Eucharist
At the Last Supper Jesus Christ instituted the
Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist so that the
Holy Sacrifice might be offered up in the
Church through all ages as the spiritual food
of the faithful. According to the Second
Vatican Council, “At the Last Supper, on the
night when He
was
betrayed,
Our
Saviour
instituted
the
Eucharistic
Sacrifice of His
Body and Blood.
He did this in
o r d e r
t o
perpetrate
the
sacrifice of the
Cross throughout
the centuries until
he would come
again, and thus to
entrust to His
beloved spouse, the Church, a memorial of
His death and resurrection: a sacrament
of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a
paschal banquet in which Christ is eaten, the
mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of
future glory is given to us.” Good and
praiseworthy are the various venerations
of the Holy Eucharist, but the most
praiseworthy is that which best corresponds
to the will of Christ, our Lord and which is
compatible with the tradition of the Eastern
Church and with the spirit of our rite; such a
veneration is the love and appreciation for
the Divine Liturgy
and frequent Holy
Communion. This is
what Christ wants,
this is what the
Church encourages
and this is what the
need of our soul
d e m a n d s .
Therefore, the Most
Holy Eucharist as
connected with the
act of the unbloody
Sacrifice of the
Divine Liturgy and
Holy Communion,
should, and must
always occupy first place in our Church. As
regards the significance of Holy Communion
for our spiritual life, Pope Pius X says; “Holy
Communion is the shortest and surest way to
heaven.”
(Liturgy at 7:00 pm at Sts. Peter &
Paul - Thursday, June 15th)
A special thank you goes out to the men and women who helped with the
Archeparchial Clergy Conference (June 6th) that was held at Sts. Peter and Paul. On
behalf of His Grace and all the Clergy, thank you for your hospitality and making this
meeting a huge success.

Nativity of St. John the Baptist
June 24
Nativity of Saint John the Baptist: Born six
months before our Lord, Saint John the
Baptist was the son of Zechariah and
Elizabeth, our Lady's cousin. He was the last
and greatest of the prophets. As the
forerunner of the Savior, he had the mission
of preparing the Jews for the coming of
Christ. When Jesus had come, Saint John
bore witness to Him before his own followers
and encouraged them to follow Him.
On Sunday June 25th, St. John’s Parish will
sadly be celebrating their last liturgy at 3 pm
with several priests and deacons who faithfully served this parish, along
with the faithful, for nearly 50 years. The liturgy will be followed with a
B.B.Q. and fellowship. Please keep this parish family in your prayers.

FEAST OF CHRIST LOVER OF
MANKIND
June 23rd, 2017
The Mystery of the Church unveils Christ's
infinite love to mankind. Through His
Church, Christ willed to embrace all
nations with His love. Before His
Ascension to heaven, He said to the
Apostles: "And know that I am with you
always; yes, to the end of time." (Matthew
28:20) Devotion to Christ the Lover of
Mankind is the worship of His infinite love.

All Saints Sunday
TODAY IS “ALL SAINTS SUNDAY” This Sunday closes the Pentecostal
season. On this day the Church celebrates the memory of the saints of God,
our shining models of virtue and the benefactors of the human race. Every
saint has his own proper feast at some time in the course of the year; but since
the number of saints is ever increasing and will increase continually to the end
of the world, the Church designates one day a year on which the memory of all
saints may be celebrated. The liturgy encourages us to pay honour to these
models of virtue, asking them to intercede with God to have mercy on us.
“Come, O believers, let us today stand in order and rejoice with true worship.
Let us extol praises in memory of the all honoured and revered saints, saying
aloud: Rejoice, O glorious apostles, prophets, martyrs, and bishops! Rejoice, O
company of the righteous and just! Rejoice, O rank of honoured women and
men…!

That’s a Good Question:
“Who is our parish priest,
Father Darren?”
Answer: Fr. Darren Kawiuk was born
here in Winnipeg on August 7th 1964.
With his parents Bill and Sandra and a
younger brother named Brent, he grew up
in Transcona, attending Margaret
Underhill and Regent Park Elementary
Schools. Darren continued his education
at John W. Gunn Junior High School and
graduated from Transcona Collegiate
Institute in 1982. He continued his
studies at the University of Manitoba and
in 1987 graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree.
Darren was led on an interesting spiritual journey before coming to the Ukrainian Catholic
Church. He was baptized in the United Church of Canada, received catechism at All
Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church and in his late teens was an active member of Calvary
Temple Pentecostal church. On December 24th, 1984, he had a conversion experience
and began attending St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Parish in Transcona. Shortly
thereafter he felt a “calling” towards the Priesthood.
(to be continued on next page….)
In 1987, seminary Darren began his first year of studies at Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic
Seminary in Ottawa. The following year, Metropolitan Maxim Hermaniuk C.Ss.R. sent
him to continue his studies at the Pontifical Ukrainian College of St. Josaphat in Rome,
Italy. The young seminarian graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Philosophy (1990 Cum Laude) and a Bachelor Degree in Theology (1993 - Magna Cum Laude) from the
Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (also known as the Angelicum).
In December, 1993, he returned back to Winnipeg and was ordained to the Diaconate at
his home parish of St. Michael’s. On June 12th, 1994, Deacon Darren was ordained to the
Priesthood.
Shortly thereafter he was given his first Pastoral Assignment which included the Parishes
located in towns and villages of Ethelbert, Garland, Gilbert Plains, Grandview, Cowan,
Grifton, Mink Creek, Keld, Riding Park, Zoria, Ashville, Ukraina and Drifting River.
On August 1st, 2000, Fr. Darren was assigned to Holy Eucharist Parish in East Kildonan,
Winnipeg. During this time he also served as Econome for the Ukrainian Catholic
Archeparchy of Winnipeg.
In August, 2005, Metropolitan Michael Bzdel, C.Ss.R. sent Fr. Darren back to Rome for
further studies. For the next three years he once again lived at the Pontifical Ukrainian
College and studied at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas. In June, 2008, he
successfully defended his thesis THE LIFE OF METROPOLITAN ANDREW
SHEPTYTSKY (1865 – 1944): AN ECUMENICAL PIONEER & HIS QUEST FOR
CHURCH UNITY and graduated (Magna Cum Laude) with a Licence Degree in
Theology, specializing in Ecumenism. During his studies, he also served the spiritual
needs of the Ukrainian immigrant community working in and around the Italian town of
Gubbio (a three and a half hour train ride from Rome).
Metropolitan Lawrence Huculak, O.S.B.M., assigned Fr. Darren to the Pastoral District of
Rossburn upon his return to Canada on July 30th, 2008, which includes the Parishes
located in towns and villages of Rossburn, Russell, Oakburn, Shoal Lake, Ruthenia,
Angusville, Lakedale, Olha, Seech, Birtle, Solsgirth, Rossburn Farms, and Dolyny. On
August 1st 2010, Fr. Darren was assigned to Holy Family Parish.
His Grace,
Metropolitan Lawrence most recently assigned Fr. Darren to be pastor of Sts. Peter and
Paul Parish on September 1st, 2016 and Administrator of St. John the Apostle on
December 1st.
Since 2008, Fr. Darren continues to serve as the Vicar General of the Ukrainian Catholic
Archeparchy of Winnipeg and is a member of the Presbyteral Council, the Archeparchial
Finance Council, the Ukrainian Catholic Foundation and in 2016 was appointed the Dean
of Winnipeg.
