DOUBLE HUNG WINDOW SPIRAL BALANCE
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PLAIN SASH
1/ Screw spiral onto jamb with spiral elongated past
the sash on the inside of the jamb pocket. If spiral
can not past the sash then removal of the sash
needs to be done first by sliding out towards one side
and twisting it out.

2/ Now screw the spiral the same for the other side of
the sash.
3/ Insert the hook on the bottom of the sash and
screw or pot rivet to fix hook. If hook is bent, ensure it
is bent back to the shape indicated in the drawing.

4/ At the end of the spiral balance is a small hole.
You will need a special hook that can be purchased
from a hardware store to hook this spiral which allows
you to turn it so it tightens. Alternatively you can use a
pair of pliers although may be difficult as when
turning the spiral tightens restricting you to not let go.
5/ Once tighten at a certain rotation you need to
guide the pins onto the hook at the bottom which
holds it in place. Do this to both sides and test sash
up and down.
6/ Adjust tension in spiral as desired by pulling down
the spiral hook and turning it as desired. This may be
difficult for the use of pliers although a lot easier for
the correct tool used as the hole is hooked onto the
tool not held by gripping.
