Highlights of the Conference
Charotar University of Science and Technology (CHARUSAT) has been
established by promulgation of Gujarat Private Universities Act, 2009. It came
into existence on the 24th July 2009, through Government of Gujarat’s
Notification No. GH/SH/24/GPU-2009-321-Kh [1]. It is empowered to confer
degrees under section 22 of the UGC Act 1956.
With the ever increasing awareness and globalization in the education system, excellence
in the basic academic processes like teaching, learning and evaluation has been of greater
importance now than ever before. Continuous improvement of these academic processes
have to remain at the heart of all activities at any institution of higher education. The
theme of the proposed National Conference is “Quest for Excellence in Teaching,
Learning and Evaluation”. Looking into the current needs and trends of the society and
the prevailing global scenario, the major tracks for discussions and deliberations have
been identified as:
1. Translating Research into Practice
2. Implementing Problem based Learning
3. Innovations in Pedagogy
4. Outcome Based Education
5. ICT in Teaching, Learning and Evaluation
CHARUSAT has bagged the distinction of being the first private University in
the State of Gujarat to be accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation
Council (NAAC) with ‘A’ grade in the first cycle. It is also accredited with ‘A’
Grade by the Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat (KCG), Government of Gujarat.
CHARUSAT has under its ambit six faculties, 7 Institutes and 3 Centers (within
the constituent institutes), offering 70 different UG, PG, and Doctoral Programs.
The faculties include Faculty of Technology and Engineering, Faculty of
Pharmacy, Faculty of Computer Science & Applications, Faculty of
Management Studies, Faculty of Applied Sciences and Faculty of Medical
Sciences.
The emphasis at CHARUSAT is on science and technology with benchmarking
of the highest international standards while taking a stock of the national needs,
demands and issues. Training for scientific pursuits or research as well as
entrepreneurship development are the two major considerations being
emphasized at CHARUSAT. The University has implemented Choice Based
Credit System (CBCS) in all its programs. Student centred methods are an
integral part of the pedagogy adopted by the faculty with extensive use of ICT.
CHARUSAT being a young university envisages growing in the field of
research, consultancy and extension. The University has filed 18 patents within a
short span of its existence. The faculty at the University is extensively involved
in research in more than 82 projects (completed and on-going) worth INR 21
Crores. Research at CHARUSAT is facilitated by well-equipped and wellfurnished laboratories augmented by sophisticated equipment worth INR more
