service to one another.
Sunday 29 May 2016, YEAR C
The Most Holy BODY and BLOOD of CHRIST
GOSPEL REFLECTION
The feast of the Body and Blood of Christ celebrates the
central celebration of Christianity – the Eucharist. All
three readings relate to this Eucharistic theme. In the
second reading, we have the first written account of the
Last Supper and what came to be seen as Jesus
instigating the Eucharist. Paul’s account, written well
before the gospels, was entrenched in the tradition by
the time the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke
echoed these words of Jesus at the Last Supper. Of
course, it is these same words that are spoken by the
priest at the consecration in the Eucharistic Prayer each
Mass. The words used today are the very same words
that have been used in the Church for two millennia.
Rather than a gospel account of the Last Supper to
celebrate the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, we
are presented with what is widely regarded as another
‘Eucharistic’ story from the gospel of Luke. The feeding
of the five thousand with five loaves and two fish is
regarded as a Eucharistic story because it was a clear
example of God’s presence in a miraculous meal. All of
the meal stories in the gospel of Luke are instructive for
the audience. Whenever the gospel writer refers to a
meal, the meal is used to teach about the reign of God.
The gospel writer uses meals to demonstrate who is
welcome in the reign of God. Like in today’s gospel, the
author of Luke’s gospel was keen to show that the reign
of God is available to anyone who wishes to be a part of
it. The reign of God is inclusive and welcoming; no one
will be turned away.

THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
CTK DATES FOR YOUR CALENDAR
In the parish of Christ the King, the sacrament of
Confirmation will be conferred on Wednesday, 24th
August, 2016, commencing at 7.30pm. In accord with
Parramatta Diocesan policy we will conduct a parishbased, family centred, school supported method of
preparation for the children to receive this sacrament.
It is a prerequisite that children to be confirmed will
have already received First Holy Communion. Children
who were baptised in Eastern Rite (Uniate Churches,
e.g. Maronite, Melchite, Ukranian, Chaldean etc.) may
have already been confirmed at Baptism and will not
need to participate in this programme.
Children in grade five or above are eligible to receive
the sacrament of Confirmation.
The preparation programme for Confirmation will
commence with an information meeting for parents/
guardians on Wednesday, 15th June, commencing at
7.30pm in Christ the King Church, where the program
will be explained and any questions answered as well as
enrolment forms distributed.
This is a significant step in your child’s journey of faith.
It is important that parents/guardians attend this
meeting.

SR. CATHERINE MADDOCK & HOLY FAITH
SISTERS FAREWELL
Sr. Catherine Maddock & Holy Faith Sisters Farewell:
Show Your Thanks!
“Dear brothers and sisters, with great humility, do all
that you can to show that the consecrated life is a
precious gift to the Church and to the world”. (Pope
Francis)
Sr. Catherine and the Holy Faith Sisters reflect in humility
and selflessness that precious gift of the consecrated
life. Sadly Sr. Catherine is leaving our Parish at the end of
next month to return to Ireland. We have all come to
know Sr. Catherine and appreciate her enormous
contribution to our Parish and School. Indeed, she was the
first Principal of the new CTK School which must have been
challenging . Sr. Catherine has touched our lives in many
respects. Her departure also marks the end of the Holy
Faith Sisters connection with our community of faith. This
has involved 43 years of dedicated service to the Church,
to our children (and even grandchildren), to us as
parishioners and parents at the School. Sr. Catherine will
be farewelled at 10am Mass and a special lunch on Sunday
19th June. You are invited to show your appreciation and
respect for Sr. Catherine and the Holy Faith Sisters by
making a donation towards the farewell function using
special envelopes at the back of the Church and placing
them in the box next to the main entrance. Alternatively,
you may make a donation by giving the envelopes to the
Church Wardens or sending them to the Parish Office.
