MISSION STATEMENT Centred on the Gospel of Jesus, Christ the King Church is a warm, welcoming community of faith. We continue to strive to be open and to embrace diversity, as we love and grow in relationship to God and in service to one another. Sunday 29 May 2016, YEAR C The Most Holy BODY and BLOOD of CHRIST GOSPEL REFLECTION The feast of the Body and Blood of Christ celebrates the central celebration of Christianity – the Eucharist. All three readings relate to this Eucharistic theme. In the second reading, we have the first written account of the Last Supper and what came to be seen as Jesus instigating the Eucharist. Paul’s account, written well before the gospels, was entrenched in the tradition by the time the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke echoed these words of Jesus at the Last Supper. Of course, it is these same words that are spoken by the priest at the consecration in the Eucharistic Prayer each Mass. The words used today are the very same words that have been used in the Church for two millennia. Rather than a gospel account of the Last Supper to celebrate the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, we are presented with what is widely regarded as another ‘Eucharistic’ story from the gospel of Luke. The feeding of the five thousand with five loaves and two fish is regarded as a Eucharistic story because it was a clear example of God’s presence in a miraculous meal. All of the meal stories in the gospel of Luke are instructive for the audience. Whenever the gospel writer refers to a meal, the meal is used to teach about the reign of God. The gospel writer uses meals to demonstrate who is welcome in the reign of God. Like in today’s gospel, the author of Luke’s gospel was keen to show that the reign of God is available to anyone who wishes to be a part of it. The reign of God is inclusive and welcoming; no one will be turned away. © Greg Sunter CSS TODAY’S READINGS: NEXT WEEK’S READINGS– Gen 14:18-20; 1Cor 11:23-26; Lk 9:11-17 1Kg 17:17-24; Gal 1:11-19; Lk 7:11-17 May 28/29—THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST Saturday 6.00 pm Sunday 8.00 am Sunday 10.00 am Computer Operator Eucharistic Minister Musician Kerry Saad Gerard Sadaya Veronica Chacty John Lacey Nesli Nuguid Isabelle Chacty Peter Bosci Tony Hughes Margaret Noonan Trish Yates Diane Campbell Christine Kinsella Lorraine Murphy Mike Yates Lance Parker Anne Gately Jennie Mater David cook Cheryl Collins Natasha Todorov Rosemary Wickham Darren So Welcomer Acolyte Sam Bietola Paul Rankin Ron Ruskin Stan Burgin John Murphy Anthony Davies Paul Malouf Reader COUNTER Group 6– Robert Wallace, John Coorey, Peter Bosci ALTAR SOCIETY Group 1– Leslie Bosci, Gloria Blackwood PIETY Group 1– Maria Bietola, Tony and Catherine Hughes, Mary McGill CHURCH CLEANING Group 6– Helen Templeman, Dawn Muriti, Brian Euhus JUNE 4/5—10th Sunday in Ordinary Time Saturday 6.00 pm Sunday 8.00 am Sunday 10.00 am Computer Operator Eucharistic Minister Musician Dexter Tabeta Inge Wienker Divine Breen Peter Blyth Sue DeCourcy Dorothea Price Lance Parker Rhoda Patrick Marguerite Wong Jo-Anne Castaneda James Kinsella James McMaster Jenny Roddy Pauline Zhao Peter Hrast Ian McMaster Sam Safy David Cook Leila Safy Dianne Vogt Rosemary Wickham Carla Manasan Darren So Welcomer Acolyte David Fahey George Germanos Chris Brown Christine Kinsella David Collins Paul Malouf Michael Ng Reader COUNTER Group 7- Tony Clancy, Brian Joyce, John Lacey ALTAR SOCIETY Group 2– Barbara Haddad PIETY Group 2– Julie Hook, Sue Quigley, Therese Davies CHURCH CLEANING Group 1– Roy and Marea Smith, Di Camden FIRST EUCHARIST 2016 CONGRATULATIONS to all the children who will be receiving the Eucharist for the first time this weekend. CATHERINE MADDOCK & HOLY FAITH SISTERS FAREWELL Sr. Catherine Maddock & Holy Faith Sisters Farewell: Show Your Thanks! “Dear brothers and sisters, with great humility, do all that you can to show that the consecrated life is a precious gift to the Church and to the world”. (Pope Francis) Sr. Catherine and the Holy Faith Sisters reflect in humility and selflessness that precious gift of the consecrated life. Sadly Sr. Catherine is leaving our Parish at the end of next month to return to Ireland. We have all come to know Sr. Catherine and appreciate her enormous contribution to our Parish and School. Indeed, she was the first Principal of the new CTK School which must have been challenging . Sr. Catherine has touched our lives in many respects. Her departure also marks the end of the Holy Faith Sisters connection with our community of faith. This has involved 43 years of dedicated service to the Church, to our children (and even grandchildren), to us as parishioners and parents at the School. Sr. Catherine will be farewelled at 10am Mass and a special lunch on Sunday 19th June. You are invited to show your appreciation and respect for Sr. Catherine and the Holy Faith Sisters by making a donation towards the farewell function using special envelopes at the back of the Church and placing them in the box next to the main entrance. Alternatively, you may make a donation by giving the envelopes to the Church Wardens or sending them to the Parish Office. TRY ALPHA! IS THERE MORE TO LIFE THAN THIS?
